I've just started researching my family tree. I have approximately 200 names on it now, but haven't gone very far back. I'm looking for information on the LILES family of Killin & Callendar region of Scotland. They owned a paint store in one of these towns & there is a LILES Lane in the one town, and a LILES Walk in the other. Family Names include James Daniel LILES and William LILES. Probable connection to Alexander LILES, magistrate. The family is also connected with the JARVIE family of the Airdrie region in Scotland, and the MCARTHUR family of Greenock, Scotland. Some members of these families also moved to Canada after 1900. Some members of the family emigrated to Canada after 1900. I have not, so far, found any connection to the LILES family of N & S Carolina. If you have found any connection to this branch of the LILES family please email me.

AUGUSTUS LYLES is my maternal grandfather. Since my mother was born in Washington, DC, in 1913, and since my mother told me that her father died at age 25 from a heart attack, I would assume he died in DC. However, I can not obtain a death certificate f r him. If I assume he was 18-22, that restricts the year of his birth. My mother used to take me to see someone whom I now think was her grandfather, in NW Washington, DC [?], with her grandmother, both still alive, at age 108 then as I remember. This has become a brick wall for me, and I could use some help.

This was a white family who were hard workers, some with farms, some owned land, some were merchants and so e ran local pubs (one where George Washington often frequented).
