These are only a few of the many historic sites
of Amite County. They were chosen because they were a) important
places mentioned in my master's research
and b) I happened to have photographs of them.
The Little Red School House in Liberty.
This site did not figure in my research, but
my Great-Grandmother Amelia Cunningham Payne was one of the many people
educated here.
Ebenezer Baptist Church - the oldest active Baptist
congregation in Mississippi.
Most of the women profiled in the Antebellum
section of my paper worshipped here.
Unity Presbyterian Church
The Gayden-Batchelor-Buckholtz-Street families
profiled in my paper were among the founding members of this congregation.
