To Our Story "Love On The Net"
Hobo & Suebug
This might take some time, get comfy :)
First I guess I should start where it all began. In March of 1996, I was in California visiting my daughter, Laura and family. They already had a computer and she got me to "Just try it Mom".
At that point I didn't even know how to type, except by hunt and peck, but I entered my first chat room and was instantly hooked!
I spent the entire two week vacation on her computer. I came home and within two weeks I had my own computer. I hooked up to IRC,later it was mIRC, and Laura and I began to chat on a daily basis, this was great!! My long distance bill was reduced to nill. Sorry about that AT&T (my long distance server) I used the nickname Buckysue, my first and last name in reverse.
I found the chat room #43 and became a "regular". One day, a Saturday, I was chatting in #43 and left to talk to Laura in another chat room. But for some reason I was still seeing all that was said in #43 on my screen along with what Laura and I were typing. It was very confusing. There was only two people in #43, Hobo and JamieR. I knew Jamie, but not this "Hobo" person. I msg'd Jim and told him of my problem but he just ignored me. After a while, I msg'd "Hobo" and explained the problem. He helped me out and fixed it for me. I went to #43 to thank him and we began chatting. He was the first man that I had talked to on the net that was a real gentelman. Very polite and nice, no funny stuff! This all happened sometime in June of 1996.
Hobo and I started to chat on a regular basis, mostly in my chat room as he was shy and it was easier for us to talk on a one on one basis. We talked about all the things you talk about when you first meet someone and want to get to know better. We started emailing each other and he even called me twice. We were like teenagers on the phone, didn't know what to say to eac hother, both of us being shy. This went on untill the end of July when he disapeared on me. I had been pressing him to meet in person and he just wasn't ready. I emailed him every day for a month, but he never answered. Here I thought I'd found the man I'd been waiting for for the last 10 years, and he was gone!
That Decemeber, after gradutating from Business School, I moved to California to work for Laura and Jeff in their business. I felt I had no ties here and the change might do me some good. Always I thought of my Hobo and hoped he might come back on mIRC, but no one ever saw him online. I continued to chat on #43 and changed my nickname to Suebug, a nick that my son in law called me. I also changed the name of my chat room. Sometime in April, my friend Viv called me from Washington, Hobo was in #43 and wanted to talk to me!!! I was shaking I was so nervous. I got on my puter as fast as my little modem would let me, and there he was, in black and white, my Hobo. It was hard to chat, there were so many people in the room, but we did mangage to msg each other.
I tried not to pressure him for answers to the million and one questions I had... like Where the heck he had been for the last 8 months.
Within two weeks of Hobo coming back on mIRC I was back home in Washington state, a lot closer to Canada than California. hee hee
This began our online courtship and eventual meeting. We had a false alarm, where Frank came all the way down here to see me, only for me to miss his phone call and I thought he had stood me up. To this day we still "argue" about that one. It's one of our little jokes. In June of 1997 we decided to meet for our "first date". Frank drove here on his Goldwing Motorcycle and we met in a parking lot close to my work. My kids made me promise not to tell him where I lived, they thought he was Ted Bundy or something.. hee hee. We had a lovely afternoon at the Zoo. When it was time for him to go, I really didn't want him to, but I had to work that night. Our next date was in Canada. I took the train up to spend the day with him in Vancover. We drove all over the city on his motorcycle, it was just great! Again when it was time to part.. neither one of us wanted to. We spent every waking hour chating online. I worked till 12am most nights, and Frank worked days. He would nap after work, set the alarm and get up to meet me online at 1am. We would chat till 3 or 4am sometimes. Then I would have to be up at 9am to meet him online before he went to work. After a month of this, I was exausted!
One day when Frank was here visiting me, we went for a ride on the motorcyle. We decided to drive up to Mt.Rainer which is fairly close to where I live. I had not been there since I was a young girl and thought it might be nice to visit it. We were driving along, enjoying the ride and each other when we came around a bend to Elbe, Washington. There in this little town was a motel, HoboInn. It was like someone had put it there just for us! Frank's nick being "Hobo" and he used to work for the CN (Canada's Railroad). I thought it was so quaint and cute, railroad cars for rooms! We both comented on it, and kept driving towards the mountain. A few weeks later, Frank asked me if I would like to go to HoboInn for the weekend. It was a perfect place for our first weekend together. We "relived" that weekend this month (July 98) and went back there.
On July 16, 1997 my Hobo got online at the Chat Station, where he stopped every morning to talk to me. We were online for about a half hour when he "popped" the question to me! It seemed only right for him to ask me over the internet since that is how we met! I said "YES". Most of the regulars at the Chat Station knew Frank, he was there everyday, and knew what he had asked me. The owner called the newspaper and when I went up to meet his parents they did an article in the local paper about us! We were the oddity, a couple that met and got engaged over the internet. If they only knew how many couples are meeting this way!
We were married twice! The first one was on August 4,1997, our "Cyber Wedding" on #43. It was so much fun! There were about 40 people present at this wedding. Our friend "Cheifers" conducted the ceramony and Kobb provided all the graphics. I really got in the spirit and decorated my computer with white wedding bells and had champane for Frank and I to toast with! We were seated at my computer and got online. There in #43 were all our "cyber friends". My daughter Steffie was there to "give me away" and of course my best friends Viv and Ric were there. I was able to log our cyber wedding and printed it out for a keepsake in our wedding book. The second was on August 8,1997 at Ocean Shores, Washington. It was a beautiful evening, with the sun setting as we said our vows. Viv was there again as my Maid of Honor and Ric was the Best Man. My son, Bob, gave me away. Frank's family drove from Canada to be there. It was a small wedding, but very beautiful. It's been almost a year since that day, hard for me to believe! My life has changed so much in that time. After 12 years of being alone, I have someone to share my life with and it's wonderful!!
I would love to hear from anyone who has met thier mate or soulmate on the net. You can sign the guest book or email us and tell me your story. If you have a web site, I will add a link to your site on this page for others to read.
