James Finley, Sr. was born about 1767 in Virginia, his parents are unknown at this time.
He married before 1792 Margaret, although her last name is not proven, there has been
oral family history that it was pronounced "Icen" or "Ison". They had 11 children all
born in South Carolina: James and his family had moved from South Carolina to the Cherokee County area of Georgia by 1840 with several of his children living in nearby counties. James had died by the time the 1850 census was taken and wife Margaret is found living in the household of her daughter Martha and son-in-law James E. Smith. It is believed that Margaret died about 1852.
Moses Finley, the son of James and Margaret Finley, was born about 1805 in South Carolina, he married Catherine Stribling before 1833 in South Carolina. Their children are:
Aaron Finley, the son of James and Margaret Finley, was born 4 Jul 1810 in Greenville County, South Carolina and died 25 Oct 1859 in Cherokee County, Georgia. He married Matilda Hester about 1833 in Greenville County, South Carolina. Their children are:
M. Frances Finley, the daughter of Aaron and Matilda Hester Finley, was born in South Carolina. She married Bill Freeman, their children are:
Malinda E. Finley, the daughter of Aaron and Matilda Hester Finley, was born 29 May 1840 in Georgia and died 10 Mar 1873 in Randolph County, Arkansas. She married David Collins Roberts about 1857 in Cherokee County, Georgia. Their children are:
Stephen Columbus Roberts, the son of Malinda E. Finley and David Collins Roberts, was born 18 Feb 1872 in McLean County, Kentucky and died 19 May 1954 in Randolph County, Arkansas. He married Emily Jane Ulmer 26 Jul 1896 in Randolph County, Arkansas. Their children are:
Alexander "Sanders" Finley, the son of James and Margaret Finley, was born about 1812 in South Carolina. He married Hulda Hester before 1836 in South Carolina, their children are:
Martha Finley, the daughter of James and Margaret Finley, was born about 1814 in south Carolina. She married James E. Smith before 1833 and their children are:
James Lee Finley, the son of James and Margaret Finley, was born about 1818 in South Carolina, his first's wife name is not
known to this researcher, but believe that they married about 1844, possibly in the Cherokee County area of
Georgia. They had at least one child:
James Lee married 2nd Elizabeth Graham, who was born abt 1830 in GA, on 9 October 1851
in Cherokee County, Georgia. Their children are: James Lee and Elizabeth both died in Jonesboro, Craighead County, Arkansas, where several other of the Finley/Findley families had moved. James died 18 Jun 1900 and Elizabeth died 11 Jun 1911.
James David Finley, the son of James Lee Finley and his first wife, was born in November 1844 in Cass County, Georgia, according to his
pension application. He married 12 Sep 1872 in Bartow County, GA Mary Elizabeth Law, born March 1844 in Virginia, the
daughter of William H. and Margaret B. Mitchell Law. James David and Mary Elizabeth had
4 children: James David and Mary Elizabeth died within a year of one another, she on the 22 Jul 1912 and he in 1913, both are buried in the Zion Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.
Dice Alice Findley, the daughter of James David and Mary Elizabeth Law Findley, was born 30 Sep 1874 in Bartow County, she died the 2 March 1962.
She married Lucius Guyton on 16 Jun 1894 in Bartow County, their children are:
William Francis Findley, the son of James David and Mary Elizabeth Law Findley, was born 26 September 1875 in Bartow County, Georgia,
he married 8 January 1899, Flora Ann Malinda Elizabeth Clark, born 14 Jun 1878,
the daughter of Joseph H. and Martha Matilda Land Clark. They had 9 children: William Francis died 4 May 1946 in Creola, Mobile County, Alabama, and was buried next to Flora Ann Malinda Elizabeth, who had died on 11 May 1935 in Rockmart, Polk County, Georgia. Both are buried at Zion Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.
Harlie Lee Fendley, the son of William Francis and Flora Ann Clark, was born 7 May 1906 in Bartow County, Georgia. He married
10 Sep 1926 in Polk County, Pearl Odessa Williams, born 4 Sep 1908, daughter of
William M. and Elizabeth Anna Hudson Williams. They had 5 children, all born in
Georgia Harlie died 25 March 1972 in Decatur, DeKalb County, Georgia and Pearl died 28 April 1989 in Riverdale, Clayton County, Georgia, both are buried at The Rock Baptist Church Cemetery in Rex, Clayton County, Georgia.
Doris Virginia Fendley, the daughter of Harlie and Pearl Williams Fendley, married David Franklin Osburn and their only child is
James Franklin Osburn, the son of Doris Virginia Fendley and David Franklin Osburn, married Sherry Jane Crabtree, the daughter of
Robert Lee Lester and Amy Vera Galloway Crabtree at the home of his Grandparents, Harlie and Pearl Fendley, in Rex, Clayton County, Georgia.
His great grandfather, William M. Williams, a Baptist Minister, performed the ceremony.
They have 4 children:

Mary Lou Findley, the daughter of James David and Mary Elizabeth Law Findley was born April 1877 in Bartow County, Georgia and married
Albert Lynch, 9 Jul 1903 in Craighead County, Arkansas. (Had she gone to
visit her grandparents and fell in love and decided to stay?) They had at least
two children:
James Marion Findley, the son of James David and Mary Elizabeth Law Findley, was born September 1879 in Bartow county, Georgia and we know
he was married several times but have not found marriage records that we can
definitely state belong to him. He also moved to the Craighead County area of
Arkansas and according to his family there, his name was John Marion, not James.
He had at least two sons:
