Mistel 1 |
The Mistel 1 was the first operational German Mistel configuration, consisting of a
time expired Ju 88A-4 & Me 109F-4. The original codename was Beethoven, the configuration was also referred to as "Vater & Sohn". Prototype trials were carried out during the later part of 1943. The trials proving successful, the unit IV/KG 101 was set up at Nordhausen in the spring of 1944. |
The nose section on the Mistel 1 consisted of a 8,380 lb hollow charge (containing
3,800 lb of high explosive), this was attached to the fuselage by means of quick release bolts. Large hollow charge had been tested on an old French battleship (l'ocean or Oran sources differ) during 1943. |
