Cpl. Chevron

This is our oldest Son, Michael. Mike is in the Marine Corps. That is why he has all this Marine graphics and pictures on his page. The Expert Rifle Badge above his picture is the one that he wears on his uniform. He has been in The Corps for about four and one half years and he is a Corporal. Mike works on engines for CH-53 helicopters. Mike went to Basic Training at MCRD San Diego CA, MCT at Camp Pendleton CA, Aviation Engine Training at Pensecola FL, his practical training at New River NC. Mike was stationed at Tustin CA, until it closed. He was stationed at MCAS Miramar near San Diego, CA. He was serving at MCAS Futenma at Okinawa, Japan, but is back Miramar now. He has got to see some of the World in the past years, some was good and some was not so good, but Mike has made it. The Marine Corps has given Mike the ability to stand tall with honor, no matter what. Mike had to earn the right to be called "Marine", and we know it didn't come easy. That title is not just given to anyone, "just the few". Mike says that he is Proud to be a Marine and we are very Proud of him. Mom is very proud because she was a Marine also.

Interests and Hobbies

Collecting
Mike likes to collect stuff. He is part "pack rat" as he always hangs onto stuff that may be useful later. He collects CD's of Music that he likes and takes it with him where ever he may roam. He also collects so of the most unusual stuff, he has mailed home handfuls of ink pens, why he is saving them; who knows? He does think that they are important enough to mail home to further his collection. One of these days We are going to pack up some of our "collections" and mail them to him.
Anything Mechanical
Even as a small child Mike liked to work on anything mechanical, be it toy or tool. Which as parents we found to be extremely aggravating because he would leave the tools out, dropped where he had used them. We are told that the Marine Corps has taught him to put away and not to lose tools, something that we could never do. We have also been told that he does excellent work on his engines. Why can't he fix the lawnmower then?

Target Shooting
Mike likes to Target Shoot and is interested in Firearms. Mike was taught firearms safety at a very early age, which is normal in the Hills of Missouri, and has owned his own firearms since childhood. He is pictured here with his first BB gun. Mikes has started his own firearms collection, but he hasn't been able to talk Dad out of his first semi-auto duty weapon. Mike recently got his second Expert Marksman Medal. He is a certified "Gun Nut". He likes to take his youngest brother, Tom, out target shooting with him when he is home. Tom likes to go with Mike and do things together. Tom thinks his big brother is the best.

Listening to Music
Mike likes to listen to all kinds of Music. He appreciates Country, and likes the social commentary of Alice Cooper. He is also a "Ozzy" Fan. Somedays he can remember who "Bo Diddly" is and can name all four of the Beatles. We tried our best to instruct him in the classics. Mike likes all types of Music, but Buddy the Basset sings better. Mike couldn't carry a tune in wheel barrow.

Mike as a Child

This is Mike running/sliding the Confidence Course as a young child. Mike was wearing his favorite shirt, that he kept until it was totally wore out.

These are Mike's Unit Patchs. The patch on the left is from MALS-36, where Mike was stationed in Okinawa. Mike said that he made a lot of friends while with MALS-36, and that he will miss them, but he won't miss Okinawa. It must be a nice place to visit, but not to stay for a year. Mike grew up a lot while overseas and had to make some difficult choices in his life. We are thankful that he had friends and people to help him out while he was there.

The patch on the right is from MALS-16, Mike's home unit. Mike says that likes his job, and is looking forward to being back in California. He is happy to be back.
