My grandfather's name was Samuel Jacob Rose. He was born Simcha Ya'acov Rosen to Ze'ev Wolf Rosen and his mother Mary in Annosl~aw Poland. During that period, Annosl~aw was ruled by Russia. No one really knows the actual date of my grandfather's birth, his family knows it to be February 14th, which now think is incorrect. According to my grandfather's Petition for Naturalization, his date of birth was January 15, 1882.

The name Ze've Wolf was found written in Hebrew on the bottom of my grandfather's tomb stone. This is the only bit of information I have on his father at this time. It is believed by my family, that Ze'ev Wolf died in Russia before the rest of the family had come to the United States.

Samuel had 4 siblings. Two brothers, Phillip and David, and 2 sisters Jennie and Anna. Samuel's mother, Mary was born in Russia according to her death certificate. Her parents names were William Wolf and Sarah Joseph. Mary died on September 8, 1936 in Rockaway Beach New York. She is buried in Mount Hebron Cemetery in Flushing New York within the same section as my grandfather.

After her arrival to New York, Jennie Rosen married a Furrior named Joseph Schwartz. He had a fur shop in Manhattan called French Furs. They had 2 daughters, Ruth and Lillian.

After her arrival to New York, Anna Rosen married a Shoemaker named Harold Nurock. They had 2 daughters, Lenore and Irene.

I currently have no information on eather David or Phillip. I do not know if they settled in New York, or somewhere else in the United States.

The lives of the Rosen family before comming to the United States remains a mystery to me, although I have not..and will not give up trying to find answers.

What I do know is that my grandfather is believed to have been born in Russia..but did spend some of his life in England. He served in the Boer War. According to his Petition for Naturalization he departed from Liverpool England in 1905 and arrived in Philidelphia Penn in December of 1905. I also do know that at some point Samuel retured to Russia to take his mother and siblings to the United States.

Eather before or shortly after his arrival to the United States, my grandfather married a woman named Sarah Brown. They had 4 children Albert, Pauline (Pearl),Milton and Anna. Sarah died on June 9, 1922, at the age of 37. She is buried in Mt. Lebanon Cemetery, in Queens, NY.

Albert Rosen was born Mikhael Leib Rosen in New York City sometime in 1908. He died on April 11, 1928 at the age of 20 from Pneumonia. He is buried in Mt Zion Cemetery, in Maspeth Queens.

Pauline Rosen was born July 5, 1909 in New York City and went by the name of Pearl Rose. She died on September 10, 1994.

Milton Rosen was born May 5, 1911 and went by the surname Rose. He died in Homestead Florida on December 18,1898.

Anna Rosen was born on July 24, 1913 in New York City. Anna is currently living in Florida, and goes by the name Nan.

My grandfather applied for Naturalization in April of 1915, but his application as denied due to the fact that he did not make it to his court appearance. The reason for this is still a mystery at this time.

On August 16, 1923 Samuel married my grandmother Helene Theis under the name of John Rose. They too had 4 children, all of whom are still living. My grandfather died on August 19, 1960, at the age of 79. He is buried in Mt. Hebron Cemetery, in Flushing, Queens.
