Paul Yee is well known in Vancouver for his book Saltwater
City: An Illustrated History of the Chinese in Vancouver and is a past
winner of the Governor General’s Award for Children’s Literature for his
1996 book Ghost Train. The story of The Jade Necklace begins at
the turn of the nineteenth century in South China and follows the life of a
servant girl who longs to bring her mother and brother to join her in Vancouver.
Many of the artifacts that inspired this story are housed in the Vancouver
Museum, where Paul worked for many years.
