Canto-pop's
"four Heavenly Kings" (from left) Aaron Kwok, Jacky Cheung, Andy

superstar Leslie Cheung.
Hongkong's four Heavenly Kings - Andy Lau, Jacky Cheung,
Aaron Kwok and Leon Lai - made a rare appearance together at the 22nd Hong
Kong Film Awards.
They took to the stage to sing the theme song of A Better
Tomorrow in honour of superstar Leslie Cheung. Cheung had been
nominated for Best Actor for his role as a troubled psychiatrist in Inner
Senses.
But when the awards ceremony got going, there were few
surprises.
As expected, Infernal Affairs and Hero, both critical and
commercial hits last year, were the night's biggest winners.
And the award goes
to...

Triad drama Infernal Affairs swept seven awards, including
top trophies for Best Film, Best Director for Andrew Lau and Alan Mak, Best
Actor for Tony Leung Chiu Wai and Best Supporting Actor for Anthony Wong.
Zhang Yimou's Oscar-nominated swordplay spectacular Hero
finished second. It took the same number of prizes as Infernal Affairs, but
in lesser categories like cinematography and art direction.
Malaysian-born, Taiwan-based Angelica Lee won the Best
Actress award for her role as a girl who sees dead people in The Eye. She
picked up the same award at Taiwan's Golden Horse Awards last year.
Taiwanese actress Rene Liu won Best Supporting Actress for
playing a policeman's unhappy wife in Double Vision. Chinese American
actress Eugenia Yuan was named Best New Performer for her role as a dead
woman in Three.
All three actresses - Lee, Liu and Yuan - did not show up
to accept their awards, possibly because of the Sars scare.
Compere Eric Tsang kicked off the ceremony with a
thank-you speech to Hongkong medical workers battling the outbreak.
In the audience, presenters and nominees like actor Andy
Lau, actress Karen Mok and director Fruit Chan kept their masks on during
the event, except when they went on stage.
Singaporean filmmaker Jack Neo's I Not Stupid, which was
nominated for Best Asian Film, lost to South Korea's My Sassy Girl.
