Running through Tuscaloosa and Pickens Counties in west Alabama, US 82 alternates between tight two-lane traffic with rather frequent intersections and short clips of four-laning and third-lane truck-passing areas. Ones patience can run quite thin, particularly if slower traffic does not move to the right in the passing areas. Tailgating is common and speed limits are often ignored, even though State Troopers patrol this stretch of highway more than most in Alabama. In early July 2004, a fiery fatal accident involving six vehicles occurred on this very bridge. If you're planning on using 82 to travel between east Mississippi and west Alabama, leave extra time and bring your best driving skills.
