near Picayune, Mississippi
Just inside the Mississippi-Louisiana state line on I-59 lies Picayune. From the highway the Picayune water tower (located in back of the local Wal-Mart store) is visible. Pics of the tower coming soon.

On the interstate, signs invite travellers to visit the Crosby Arboretum. After years of passing on the invitation, I ventured into the park in late December 2002. What I found was a relatively young protected forest and marshland area. A former strawberry farm, the park features a beautiful flowing stream, pine forests, unique Gulf Coast foliage and hardwoods and even grassland. Crosby is a great place to stop and stretch your legs on a sunny day. It is also a work in progress, and, as such, an attraction to revisit periodically. Although I walked the trails in the dead of winter, the lanscape was quite interesting and involving. Another stop in the spring is certainly advised.

One note on finding the Arboretum itself: when you enter what ostensibly seems to be the WalMart parking lot, hang a
right, away from the building. If, on the other hand, you want a close-up of the Wally World dumpsters and the base of the Picayune water tower, then drive straight through the parking lot to the back of the store.
