Little campaign-style signs went up in yards and on street corners all around T-Town in early 2002 promoting "Greater Tuscaloosa-Northport" as a candidate for All-America City in that year. Now that the "Greater Tuscaloosa-Northport" area has won, the giant billboards and these small road signs (like the one pictured above) proclaim the fame of Tuscaloosa... Any mention of our smaller neighbor to the northwest has been foresaken. Or maybe removed, like a mole or unwanted facial hair.

A recent showing of the "Vagina Monologues" on the campus of the University of Alabama drew some criticism. At the same time a branch of the Bad Ass Cafe opened in town stirring a bit of controversy as well. Is this really an All-America City? What are the criteria? Staunch paranoid closed-mindness?

Road-widening related to the construction of a new Publix in the area has since changed the landscape dramatically.
