Locking Jaws

There is no such thing as locking jaws. There is nothing about a Pit Bull's jaws that distinguish them from any other dog's jaws. However their wide jaws do allow them to hold on more effectively.

Pit Bulls attack more than any other dogs

Popular breeds that are generally considered nice, or family dogs top the lists of bite statistics. It seems like they attack mor eoften because they are most commonly reported. Others like the Pomeranian who killed the 6 month old baby are not "newsworthy enough" to be shown everytime they happen. The Pit Bulls who do attack are either, irresponsibly raised, bred, or trained.

All Pit Bulls are mean and vicious

Pit Bulls that do act aggressively are the result of bad breeding and poor socialization. A well socialized Pit Bull is a wonderful family companion. People believe and say all Pit Bulls are mean because that's what they have been taught by the media. The American Temperament test society does an annual temperament test on 122 breeds of dogs. In 2004 the American Pit Bull Terrier had a passing rate of 83.4 which was higher than common family dogs like the Cocker spaniel, Golden Retreiver, and the Border Collie. They put each dog through a series of situations and if at any time they react aggressively they fail the test. There are thousands of Pit Bulls that will live out their lives never being mean.

A Pit Bull that attacks an animal will start to attack humans

This is completely untrue, animal aggression and human aggression are two completely separate traits. Human aggression was bred out of them becuase fighters wanted dogs they could trust not to bite. A dog that was prone to biting was not feasible. A Pit Bull that bites has an unstable temperament, and should be taken to a behaviorist. If the problem cannot be solved they should be euthanized for the good of the breed.
