Commencement Ceremony Canceled

A small group of volunteers from the former SC staff and faculty were hoping to try to arrange a graduation ceremony, but a couple of former students have made it very clear that they would use the occasion to express their anger over the closing of the college. What should be a joyous event would be spoiled and none of us deserves or wants to put up with that. So, unfortunately, once again a few have ruined it for the majority. I'm truly sorry. We were looking forward to seeing some of you students again.

Linda

Thanks,
Linda

To all former Southern College students:

    From Linda Nusbaum
    (former Director of SC):

A group of SC volunteers has been helping me in trying to reach each student by phone to notify them of the school closing and tell them of this web page.

Please help us in passing the info along to your former classmates.

You all know that my heart is broken over the closing of the college and I will do everything I can for each of you in trying to help you through this situation.

I am sure most of you are aware, I am no longer an employee of SC, but I am still trying to gather information concerning your rights.

I will post any information I receive on this web site, so please keep checking.

Send your questions to me via the e-mail address on this site and I will try to answer them as I gain information.

I have been in contact with the State Board and I am waiting for answers to some of your questions.

I am trying to determine if there is anyway I can give credits to students for this quarter's courses.

I am pushing very hard to be able to give graduates their degrees.

    I'll keep you posted.

After I get my answers on the credits, we will update the transcripts and will try to mail one to each student.

I have made arrangements to secure the student database and hopefully will be able to provide transcripts to students in the future.

Information I have collected so far:

We have posted, on this site, information received from the Federal Financial Aid Department concerning steps you can take to have your loans refunded. Please e-mail helpscstudents@yahoo.com me via this site if you have questions and I will try to get answers for you.

The State Board is arranging a meeting for all SC students for next Thursday at 9:00 a.m. A location has not been determined yet, but I will let you know, on this web site, where the meeting will be held. Representatives from Federal and State Financial Aid, the SBICU, accrediting commissions, and other colleges, which will work with students on transfers, will be present.

A lot of you have been asking how you can return your laptops.  I will notify you, on this site, when I get that information.

For Dental Assisting students, a local college, Americare, will accept transfer credits and enroll students who need to finish their programs.

Again, I am so sorry you all are having to go through this and I'll help you in any way I can.

Click here to download the Student Rights information.  This document contains information on what steps students can take for more information.

Please visit this web site often as it will be periodically updated.

Feel free to e-mail any questions you may have to helpscstudents@yahoo.com

    * * *

Again, please visit this website regularly as information will be posted as soon as possible. Please, also, distribute this information to whoever wishes it.

If you have any suggestions, comments, or reports of dead links/ typos, please
    e-mail helpscstudents@yahoo.com.

Thank you for your time and (nearly immeasureable) patience,
