Municipal Heraldry
August 2004,
revised November 2006
The term "municipal heraldry", also known as "civic heraldry", refers to the coats of arms, seals, and flags of local authorities, such as city and town councils, divisional councils, and regional services councils. Since 1804, South Africa has produced hundreds of such arms, nearly all of which are now obsolete as a result of local government reorganisations.
