Keeping a tortoise is very different from keeping a dog or a cat.  But before you get adicted you need to consider how much your tortoise will cost in money, time and your attention
Daily care includes checking the lights are on, washing and refilling the water bowl, feeding and cleaning any mess they make during the day to prevent disease.
There are some potential problems such as salmonella.
Hermanns tortoise can live well beyond 75years.. no one really knows how long they can live in captivity.
Once you have brought your chelonian, it needs a viviarium with a full spectrum UV light, basking light, plenty of places to hide, somewhere cool in case it feels to hot.  Also a thermomstat, stanby blubs for your lights.  You also need a subtable substrate that has been dust extracted, food, water and quite expensive vitamins not menting vet bills.. worming, demiting and an escpae proof outside enclosure.
