Lemuel and Mary were in Benton Co., TN by 1826 as they joined the Rushings Creek Baptist Church by letter on 8July 1826.
Lemuel was ordained to preach on 9Dec1826 by Rushings Creek Baptist Church in Camden, Benton Co., TN
Rushings Creek Baptist Church Records show him leaving in 1833.
Later he came to Panola Co., TX in mid 1836. The 1850 Census of Panola Co., TX lists Lemuel as owning 8 slaves plus property valued at $600.
Lemuel Herrin and Isaac Reed organized several churches in Northeast Texas. Reed and Herrin also had familial connections. Reeds' son married Herrins' daughter. They worked together for several years developing churches and associations, but on the question of mission work and the organizations to carry out missions, Reed and Herrin disagreed violently.

LEMUEL HERRIN (D. 1852) PIONEER MISSIONARY BAPTIST MINISTER FROM TENNESSEE, THIS CHURCH WAS REORGANIZED IN 1850 BY ELDERS JOHN B. RENFRO AND J.O. WALKER AND THE REV. JESSE WITT, WHO SERVED AS THE FIRST PASTOR. TOTAL MEMBERSHIP IN 1850 WAS 21. IT ITS EARLY YEARS, THE FELLOWSHIP SHARED A MEETING PLACE WITH THE CUMBERLAND PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH. THE PRESENT CHURCH BUILDING WAS DEDICATED APRIL 25, 1954. AT LEAST THREE OTHER CONGREGATIONS HAVE BEEN SPONSORED BY THIS ONE. THE MEMBERSHIP HAS GROWN STEADILY. " The plague was dated 1976.
As of April 2002 there are approx. 1,500 members. Value of building $3,000,000 plus. Population of town is 13,000. Soda Lake Association records do not show when this church was organized. Their first records are in 1849 showing Lemuel Herrin as Preacher and 18 members.
MACEDONIA BAPTIST CHURCH, CARTHAGE, TX HAS A MEMORIAL STONE IN FRONT OF IT WITH THE FOLLOWING: "IN MEMORIAM LEMUEL HERRIN PIONEER BAPTIST LEADER ORGANIZED MACEDONIA CHURCH 1845 ASSISTED BY ISAAC REED DIED 1852 BURIED AT OLD MACEDONIA. ERECTED BY PANOLA COUNTY BAPTIST ASSN. APRIL 1921".

I, Lemuel Herrin, do make and ordain this my last will and testament in manner and form following.
1st, I will all my Estate both real and personal with all my negroes, my household and kitchen furniture to my wife, Mary Herrin for her lifetime and at her death an equal division among all my children.
I wish them to divide things after having everything valued. The one that gets first choice, the second time gets the last and so on till all is disposed of.
2nd I nominate and approve Gresham Herrin and William M. Herrin, my sons, executors to this my last will without giving security and to furnish Tabitha Pearce a home of one hundred and fifty acres of land with a house as she is a widow and without a home furnished. Now to comply with this request leaving this my last will and testament in witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand the 16th day of July 1850.

I, Abner Herrin do make and ordain this my last will. My will is that all my just debts be paid. I leave to my beloved wife Kiziah Herrin my land and farm whereon we now live with all the household furniture with two of the Negroes which she may choose with one horse say her chois with two milk cows and all the Hogs. This is to be hers during her life or widowhood and at her death to be equaly divided. It is my will that Louisa Herrin shall have Fifty acres of land which she is now living to raise her children. But the land (line missing)
It is my will that Christopher Barbee shall pay to Moses Herrin heirs the amount of an execution that he paid for him to Charles (Meakes hard to read) with the lawful interest since he paid it which the widow now holds, and it is to be paid at the time of the division.
It is my will that Kiziah Allred my grand daughter have an equal part with the rest of my children provided she lives to be married and have an heir and if not her part of my estate is to be between all my heirs. It is my wish that Elijah Allred act as gaurdian for the heirs of Isaac Reed in this part of my estate. It is my will that Elizabeth Barbee's part of my estate shall be hers and his bodily heirs. And at his death be equaly divided between his heirs. It is my will that at my death all my goods and chattel shall be sold to the highest bidder at public auction at twelve months credit with bond and approved security and the notes to be divided to each his part and each one collect for himself.
