There are other reasons to learning about congruent triangles other than you just have to. One example where congruent triangles are used is in architecture. They are used to absorb the stress put on the building. If the triangles weren't congruent then stress would be distributed unevenly; therefore in extreme weather conditions the building could collapse. Of course to find or construct congruent triangles you must know how to prove that they are congruent.
