We are expecting Kathleen A. Gaffney, M.D., Commissioner; Nassau County Department of Health, as our speaker. We are entering the mosquito season and it is important for all of our residents to be informed. Please invite your friends and neighbors, all are welcome at our meeting.

Summer Picnic

Mark you calendar for Sunday, July 23, 12 noon to 4 p.m. Bring your family and invite a neighbor from the Northwest. This is a perfect time to introduce them to the Civic. Picnic goers will be able to use the Cantiague Park pool at the resident rate with or without a leisure pass.

Head chef, John Russo will demonstrate his culinary talents. There will be drawings and games for the children. A five dollar donation is suggested per family. Prizes are needed for this event. Talk to John for more information.

Items Needed

We need items for a garage sale to be held on Labor Day weekend and for future raffles. We are looking for new items or those in excellent condition. This is the perfect use for those presents you never knew what to do with.

Plant Sale

As announced last month, the Beautification Committee will hold a plant sale from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 13. Donations of plant material are needed. Please keep the sale in mind as you are thinning your flower beds and contact Linda Bennett to make arrangements for your contributions..

This could be your opportunity to get that herb or flower you always wanted at garage sale prices. The sale will be in John Russo’s driveway.

From the President…..

May is Membership Month

Membership renewals are due in May and applications are going out with this newsletter.

Last year we delivered a copy of the May newsletter and a membership application to almost every household in the Northwest. We had a good percentage of renewals, but the distribution did not result in the desired number of new members.

This year we are asking members to personally invite neighbors or friends to join. Be sure to mention our member benefits – newsletter, monthly meetings with guest speakers, summer picnic, Holiday party… We have extra newsletters and membership applications available for this purpose. You may pick them up at the May meeting or if you can’t make it to the meeting, contact Millie Jones or myself. We’ll make sure you get what you need.

Don’t forget to send in your dues and we’d appreciate it if you would invite neighbors and friends to become members too!

Dale Bennett

Scenes from the 1966 Hicksville Memorial Day Parade coming down North Broadway. We could use some of that gasoline at the station in the top right at 29.9 cents during the summer of 2000 when prices have hit 1.75 and more! Mid-Island Plaza is beyond the station.
