Congratulations to Alan Boodman and Michael Tomeo and all of the members of this excellent Retro site. Dedicated to replaying Major League Baseball seasons from 1968 to present, with a little of their own individual flavor, the Smiley League plays 2 seasons per year. The League is designed for the Baseball fan who wants to follow the progress of their own favorite team, but yet have a hand in it's destiny themselves, through a unique draft and free agency format. Their inaugural season of 1968 provided the basis for all teams and each franchise receives future rookies for that team, with the draft being composed of players from unowned teams. Each past season is chronicled in detail with roster reports, draft lists, and statistics, but the most interesting feature is the year by year lists of MLB team rookies, baseball news and...my personal favorite...the What's on TV feature...a day by day listing of television shows by year and their yearly ratings. Rowan and Martin's Laugh In was the highest rated show in 1968 and 1969? Dang... If you're a fan of baseball's past, or are interested in how you can shape the destiny of your favorite MLB team, be sure and give a visit to the S.M.I.L.E.Y. League in your travels thru the Webring. It's worth the trip. |
