The Sandie Award for Webring Strat-O-Matic Baseball Site of the Month August, 2002 |
The August, 2002 winner of the Sandie Award for Strat-O-Matic Webring Site of the Month is the Historical Baseball Project. Congratulations to Larry Foster and all of the members of this outstanding league and historical project site. Much like the quote on their home page, "The one constant, through the years, has been Baseball...it reminds us of all that once was good, and could be again", the HBP utilizes human and computer managers to replay stock seasons throughout the history of baseball, to create in a sense, what could be again. Stats and standings are updated weekly on the site, so that you can readily follow the pennant races as they unfold. With a season lastly approximately 3 months, the HBP is able to replay multiple seasons a year, so return visits to the site are absolutely encouraged. With classic seasons such as 1921, 1949, 1954, 1955, 1969, 1975 and many more already under their belt, the season recap pages are a blast to read. There is even a complete encyclopedia on-line for their 1948 thru 1954 seasons! Check out their Hall of Champions that chronicles each seasons' pennant winners, as well as Sisler's .405 average in 1920 and McCovey's 61 home runs in 1969 in their records section. My personal favorite is Satchel Paige's 47 saves in 1948! Feel like you're part of the action by visiting the Historical Baseball Project in your travels thru the webring. I wonder if league member Tony Brizzolara will manage himself 1979... Click on the logo to access the HBP home page. |
