PIX -- Connie Dover was in town for the Scottish Festival and Highland Games and we got to meet her! What a genuinely *nice* person!
A friend introduced me to the music of Connie Dover last year, and I have been a fan ever since. She sings Scottish, Irish, and Appalachian and western folk songs with the voice of an angel. Folk music is music that tells a story--my favorite kind of music. When I listen to Connie sing, I can imagine that I'm hearing the voices of my Celtic great-greats. They came from Scotland to the Ozarks, probably by way of the Appalachians. |

Yet, Connie's music is not rigidly 'traditional'; she mixes the Celtic with an American folk sensibility, creating something fresh and contemporary. She finds a fragment of an old Scottish folk song, and completes it! That is true folk music--a living, breathing art that is passed down, and sometimes altered along the way.
