Wayne is the most populous county in the state, and in point of manufactures and commercial advantages, it is far in advance of all others. It is in the south-eastern part of the state, and is bounded on the north by Oakland and Macomb, east by Lake St. Clair and Detroit river, south by Monroe county, and west by Washtenaw, and contains about 600 square miles.(Michigan State Gazetter, 1863/1864) More Wayne County History
