'When the forces of Emporer Mohammed II invaded the town of Otranto
in 1480, the warring factions of Italy suddenly united in an effort to
drive the Turks from the peninsula. The contempory drawing at right shows
for nobles leading their seperated armies in the common cause that united
even Lorenzo and Pope Sixtus. As soon as the Turks were beaten, however,
the unity proptly disintegrated.
