13th century? At “chaltel de cartage” (Carthage) there are nine white bell tents with pennons flying (either blue or red) from the apex on each tent, no guy ropes or decoration is visible. At Crete there are six white bell tents identical to those above. While at “damiete” there is another eight such bell tents. “For Christian knights the crusade was a great adventure. The next two pages are occupied by a map of the Mediterranean showing the expedition organized by St Louis (1244 - 1270)...” Provenance unknown.  Delort, R., Life in the Middle Ages, London, 1973, p. 286.
