Six bell tents ( white, black or red in colour) can be seen in the top right corner above the monastery, with ball apexes.  “In an old icon (Byzantine) showing the Monastery (Saba) we see most notably the crenellated defensive wall and the watch tower at the crest of the rock out crop.” Provenance unknown.  Lemaître, A., The Cultural History of the Holy Land, Geneva, 1983, p. 44.
