Indusekhara !! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Introduction to the geetham:- I used to listen to this song, during my childhood, in an All India Radio Station’s Bhakti Sangeetha Kaaryakramam ‘Bhakti Ranjani’. I do not know the names of lyricist, singers, etc. I believe in the saying: ‘Shivaya Vishnu Roopaya, Siva Rupaya Vishnave' (Skandopanishat). My father loves this lalitha sangeetham (geetham); I was also told that my mother in law too used to recite it. The song seems to be a little bigger than what is provided above. I shall be grateful if anyone can help me trace out all of the song and its lyricists/composers/singers and make available on the net. We have a lot to learn from Shiva – Siva or Indusekhara – who is modest, reticent and humble. Shiva has beside him Loka maata Bhavani, a close friend Kubera: yet he lives an ascetic life… read on! This reminds me a proverb which goes on to say that ‘a child born with a gold spoon in his mouth will never show off his affluence’… so on and so forth. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Meaning of the song:- Pallavi The devotees ask Lord Siva, Indusekhara, what is this? Is it right for you to do the following things? Caranam 1 / Charanam 1 When you have Silver mountain (Kailasam/Himalayas) as your abode, When you have a Yaksha friend like Kubera, the Lord of Wealth, beside you, When you protect those who beg your asylum, Is it fair, Lord Shiva, that you reside at Rudra Bhoomi (Smashanam), you live an ascetic and rigorous life, you beg with a begging bowl? Caranam 2 / Charanam 2 When Lokamatha Bhavani is half of you (Ardha Naarishwara), Why do you live a life of that of a Yogi? Even Lord Brahma and Lord Vishnu cannot crack or break your secret, Then, why Oh Lord Shiva, why do you live an austere life? Caranam 3 / Charanam 3 When your devotees adorn you with all kinds of golden ornaments, why do you refuse them and, instead, wore the garland of snakes? Why do you prefer vishannam (Poison as your food) to sumptuous and delicious food? Why do you refuse fragrance of fresh flowers and, instead, attire yourself with vibhudi (or vibhuti)? ========================================================================= An attempt in service of His Lotus Feet by:- A. Hari Krishna Sharma ( Comments: hkssv@yahoo.com ) Note: I have attempted to provide error-free lyrics and an almost-word-2-word meaning in a very lucid form to the above telugu song so that even non-telugu speaking people can also get benefitted. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Venkatadri samam sthanam – brahmande nasti kinchanaa Venkatesa samam devo – na bhooto na bhavishyati ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Join the Group: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/HisLotusFeet |
