Meaning of this lullaby (jola paata)
Introduction:
This lullaby/jola paata is sung by Maa Yashoda to her naughty son, Lord Krishna.

Meaning

Oh my dear Krishna, the universe is your cradle,
Oh my dear Krishna, the four vedas are the ropes holding your cradle,
Oh my dear Krishna, the snake with 10,000 heads forms your mattress,
Oh my dear Krishna, all the gopikas are at your service to do cradle-swing;

Oh my dear Krishna, YOU sleep now for a while

Oh my dear Krishna, the snake is always beside you to protect you;
Oh my dear Krishna, it protects you always just like the eye lid for an eye;

Oh my dear Krishna, YOU sleep now for a while

                                               About Madhurashtakam
Madhurashtakam is in Sanskrit and is easily understood. Only one word, madhuram, is repeated seven times each in this ashtakam (poem with eight verses)!! The composer of this astakam is Sri Vallabhacharya of about 15th Century AD. It is evident from the ashtakam that the devotee is fascinated to have a look at not only the sarvaanga sundara roopam of Lord Krishna but also the very existence of the Lord ~ by way of His moves, plays, etc.
