Introduction to the Keerthana

As a prayer to Lord Sri Rama seeking protection, the devotee requests the Lord's ever-loving care just like a mother cares for her child. The Sankeerthana by Sri Thyagarajaswami is in Jayanthasri Ragam, set to Adi Talam. The devotee in this keerthana graciously demands the Lord's attention. He also asks the Lord to take him to safety. By an interrogation in itself, the devotee pleads the Lord's protection at all times!

Meaning of the Sankeerthana

[Needless to mention, the meaning is a mediocre effort to explain, among other things, the nearest annotation in the given context, and is not an expert's translation. It is basically meant for those who have no knowledge of Telugu.]

Oh Rama, How can you forget me? How can You, the omnipresent, the One who lives in the living as well as the non-living, the Supreme, the Glory and the One who rains elixir and honey on his devotees, how can You afford to forget this devotee?!

I see YOU in everything, even in the depths of all my thinking; I took YOU to be everything in my life; I find YOU in everything I do. I have no other avocation than remembering You, reciting Your names and praying for Your company. Oh Lord, the One who was praised by Saint Thyagaraja (in his keerthanas), You are my everything, Protect me O' Rama!
