Naham vasami Vaikunthe...

Lord Vishnu told Narada:

Naaham vasami vaikunthe; Na yogi hridaye ravau;
Yatra madbhaktha gaayanthi; Tatra Thishtthami Narada !!

Meaning:

I reside not in Vaikuntham;
Nor in the hearts of Yogis or Saints;
Nor at the Sun's core;
Wherever my devotees sing (naama sankeerthana);
I cling myself there and embrace (them) !

Chapter 2

Aarthaa Vishannaa...

Bhishma Pitamaha in
Sri Vishnu Sahasra Nama Stotram
told Yudhishtira (Dharma Raja):

"Aartha Vishanna Sithilaaschcha Bheethaa
Ghoreshu cha vyadhishu varthamanaa:
Sankeerthya Narayana Sabdha Maathram
Vimuktha Dukkha: Sukhino Bhavanthu"

Meaning:

A person who sings, recites or chants
a single word, that is,
NARAYANA
now and then, again and again,
all his sorrows, worries, diseases, fears and disastrous gloominess
just VANISH.

Chapter 3

Neela Megha Shyama...

Introduction

This is one of the 100 stanzas (padyas) composed by the poet, Sri Seshappa Kavi of Dharmapuri, Karimnagar District, Andhra Pradesh. Seshappa was a staunch devotee of Lord Narasimha (an incarnation of Lord Vishnu). Each stanza/padyam has six lines: He composed the first four lines in Seesa padyam and the next two lines in Thetageethi. This stanza is a manifestation of the devotee to the Lord that the nitya karmas of a human being are, as also enunciated by Adi Sankaracharya, nothing other than singing in praise of Lord Narayana ! The devotee, whatever he does, should envisage just Narayana !

"Neela megha shyama! Neeve thandrivi maaku;
Kamala vasinimammu ganna thalli
Nee bhaktha varulantha nijamaina bandhuvul;
Nee katakshamu maakaneka dhanamu
Nee keerthanalu maaku loka prapanchambu;
Nee sahayamu maaku nithya sukhamu
Nee manthrame maaku nishkalankapu vidya;
Nee pada dhyanambu nithya japamu
Thoyajaathaksha nee paada thusali dalamu ~
Rogamulakausadhamu brahma rudra vinutha
Bhushana vikasa Sri Dharmapura nivasa ~
Dushta samhara Narasimha durithadoora"

Meaning:

Oh Lord Narasimha, the one with the blue-body resembling that of a dark cloud, YOU are my Father. Kamalavasini, the one who dwells on the Lotus is my Mother! All Your devotees are my friends and relatives. Your blessings are my treasure! Keerthanas (songs) in your praise is all my world! Your assistance is our eternal happiness ! Invocating & chanting of Your naama manthram makes us enlightened ! Our daily japam is composed of 'meditation of Your names'! Oh Lord! You are the one whose eyes resemble that of a Lotus (born from water)! The tulasi dala thirtham obtained from Your Tirumanjanam / Abhishekam is a wonderful medicine! Such is the power of a soul's sangatyam with the Lord whose abode is Dharmapuri.

Aushadham chintayed Vishnum, Bhojanam cha Janardhanam...

Introduction

Sri Vishnu Shodasa Nama Stotram

Evoke, recall, retain and remember the Sixteen names of the Lord when placed in any situation. Meditate upon the Lord with His several names like Vishnu, Janardhana, Padmanabha, Prajapati, Chakradhara, Trivikrama, Narayana, Sridhara, Govinda, Madhusoodhana, Narasimha, Jalasayana, Varaha, Raghunandana, Vamana, Madhava every morning (or anytime/when time permits) so that all our sins get annihilated and we feel the presence of Lord Vishnu around us, with us and within us ! This is the essence of the Sri Vishnu Shodasa Nama Stotram!

[*at the final journey, i.e. at the time of 'tanu-tyage'=leaving behind the corpse]

Chapter 5

Antya kalamunandu naayaasamuna ninnu thalathuno talapano talathunipude, Narasimha...

Introduction

This is yet another masterpiece of the 100 stanzas (padyams) composed by Sri Seshappa Kavi of Dharmapuri Punyakshetram, Karimnagar , Andhra Pradesh. It is a supposition of the devotee to rush, utilise and enchant the names of the Lord in all possible ways without wasting any space of time. The devotee doesnot want to postpone Lord's nama bhajana till old age for the fear that his sickness and wearing out the strengths in the body in his old age may interfere with/disallow singing in praise of Lord. So he wants to make use of the time now available and express to the Lord his deepest devotion in HisLotusFeet.

This expression is a request from the devotee to accept his dedication in his earlier years of life itself, for he does not want to wait for the old age when one is withdrawn from his duties in life. In other words, it is a hurried act of the devotee to earn as many credit points as possible to his account!

"Antya kalamu nandu naayasamuna ninnu;
Thalatuno talapano talathunipude;
Narasimha! Narasimha! Narasimha! Lakshmeesha!
Daanavanthaka! Kotibhanu teja!
Govinda! Govinda! Govinda! Sarvesha!
Pannagadhipa saayi! Padmanabha!
Madhuvairi! Madhuvairi! Madhuvairi! Lokesa!
Neela megha sareera ! Nigama vinutha!
Ee vidhambugaa nee namamistamuganu
Bhajana seyuchoonundu naa bhavamandu!
Bhushana vikasa Sri Dharmapuranivasa! ~
Dusta samhaara Narasimha durithadura!"

Meaning:

O' Lord! My oldage illnesses may not allow me to remember and recall You ~ I therefore sing in Your praise now! (Please listen to me singing Your Names) ~ Narasimha! Narasimha! Narasimha! Lakshmeesha! Danavanthaka! Kotibhanuteja! Govinda! Govinda! Govinda! Sarvesa! Pannagadhipasayi! Padmanabha! Madhuvairi! Madhuvairi! Madhuvairi! Lokesa! Neela megha sareera ! Nigama vinutha!
I sing in Your praise in my deepest thoughts like this, now and again, again and again!
O' Lord Narasimha! Narayana! The protector of devotees ! The eliminator of the evil!
I sing in Your praise in my deepest thoughts like this, now and again, again and again!
