"Our Little Angel" Mandy Lee Bender was born April 21, 1995 via c-section at 36 weeks. The day after she was born, we got the horrible news that she had Hypoplastic Left Ventricle (HLHS). After listening to the Pediatric Cardiologist give us poor outcome options, my husband and I decided to take her home. She lived for 41 days and died at 11:51 p.m. on May 31, 1995, in her daddy's arms. The last couple of days were really hard, seeing her body shut down. However, we got many movies and pictures of her short life. The majority of her life was spent like a normal baby. She looked beautiful on the outside, and no one knew she was only going to live for such a short time, except us. At first we thought the doctors made a mistake because she did start to look so healthy, but as the days grew to an end, you sure could tell she was dying. It's been hard these years since her death, but I do feel I am healing in a positive way. We now have a healthy boy named Cole, and a daughter named Cara. Hopefully she is watching over both of them. I am the Chapter Leader and newsletter editor for Bereaved Parents of the USA, Southern Nevada Chapter, and am keeping Mandy's memory alive with the volunteer work I am doing with the support group.
Bereaved Parents of the USA

~ My Parents Are Survivors ~
~ Keeping our children's memories alive ~
Morning just another day;
happy people pass my way.
Looking in their eyes,
I see a memory
I realize how happy you made me.
Oh Mandy....

Lyrics from "Mandy" by Barry Manilow
