ODE TO HMR(L) 261 BY: DAVE "CD" SLIGER Here's to the boys of TWO SIXTY ONE and the way it was back then - And here's to our pals who have left our ranks but live in our memories again... And here's to all the places we were - Pohang and Sukiran - When our eyes were keen and our hearts were strong - And we walked proud on the land... And here's to the Echo Mikes we flew - With their scent of hot oil and fuel - And the banshee scream of the engine - Roaring like a Raging Bull... We lived each day on the cutting edge - never knowing what life held in store - But we did the job we had to do - For TWO SIXTY ONE and the Corps... We drank our booze an were most profane - And TWO SIXTY ONE was renown - For we lived the creed of "Semper Fi" - When ever a pal went down... There are some in this world who have never known the camaraderie that we knew - For TWO SIXTY ONE flew high the banner of the proud, the brave, the few... Now our lives sped acrost the years - Like the whirling of the rotor blades - And lifes dealt to some a hand of aces - And to some a hand of spades... Here's to the way of life we knew - At New River and foreign shores - Let us stand united and drink a toast to TWO SIXTY ONE and the Corps - And may our memories never fail us, and forever and anon, may there ever be a Marine Corps - And HMR TWO SIXTY ONE... So let us stand tall and remember - That the good fight has been fought - And the ones who fell for TWO SIXTY ONE - Did not fall for naught... And we make that final muster on that far and distant shore... Would to God the final trumpet is a helicopter roar... Then we can say "We gave our best" - And the victory has been one - And we make that final flight - On the wings of TWO SIXTY ONE... |
