Biography
Hoang Lan's real name is Nguyen Linh Phuong. Her mother is the famous singer Kim Tuyen. Although Hoang Lan came from a musical family, unlike many children with the same background, Hoang Lan's mother did not encourage her to pursue singing as a career.
Hoang Lan and her family came to the United States in 1989. Although she claimed to never received any musical training prior to going pro, Hoang Lan won many fans in her first public appearance in Thuy Nga 34. She sang the song "Doan Cuoi Mot Cuoc Tinh" by Lam Phuong in that video. Although she was a new-comer, she sound so much like a professional! Her fan base steadily grew as she appeared in Thuy Nga's subsequent videos (35-38).
Hoang Lan has appeared from Paris By Night 34 until present and she has been receiving more and more love from the fans each and everyday. Her voice has always sound terrific since her first appearance. In addition, Hoang Lan is well known for singing nhac que huong and nhac tru*~ ti`nh. All the songs that have been sung by Hoang Lan are all mostly nhac que huong, and they all sound splendid because she has such a great voice!
Hoang Lan said that although she found success through her exposure from Thuy Nga's production, she owes her start to Tuan Dat, who introduced her to Nhac Tinh Productions, where she first appeared in a CD titled La Dieu Bong.
Hoang Lan found a niche in singing romantic ballads, que huong music, and music that bring about feelings of nostalgia. Since joining Thuy Nga Production, Hoang Lan has recorded: five solo CDs, three CDs with The Son and My Huyen, two CDs duet with The Son, and some more with the other singers from Thuy Nga Production.
My comments: I like Hoang Lan ever since I first saw her in PBN 34. She is my mom's favorite singer as well as mine!! We bought all the CDs that Thuy Nga has had released for her and we're always looking forward for her CDs to come out! I think Huong Lan, Phi Nhung, and Hoang Lan are the divine singers when it comes to nhac que huong!!
