1969 - MR FREEDOM

Leopard-print hot-pants, star-spangled kipper ties, unisex butcher-boy caps, T-shirts with classing satin appliques of sundaes and rockets and Mickey and Minnie and catch-phrases of period like ´ Slip it to me´ .  Mr.  Freedom was halfway between Bash Street and Disneyland:  no comic-strip image was too kitsch or too childish,  no colour combination ws too garish.  Customers, at one time,  were greeted by a giant stuffed gorilla dyed fun-fur blue. Confident Cockney Tommy Roberts claimed he´d inspired Saint Laurent´s tarty 1970 look.  He moved to even flashier premises in Kensington, went bust like Biba.
