The Cast

There is so much that I could tell you about the cast, lots of facts that I could get from all over the place. But I quite frankly haven't got the time to be hunting down all the facts on each character, so instead I'll give you a brief overview on my opinion on each of them =) With, of course a few facts that I happen to know about along the way *grinz*

Rimmer

ARNOLD J. RIMMER
Chris Barrie

Having not gotten the right start in life Arnold Judas Rimmer managed to work his way up to second technician in the space corps, having failed the Astronavigation exam no less than nine times! He was then killed in the radiation leak that wiped out the entire crew after he failed to seal the drive plate properly. Now Rimmer is a hologram, bought back by Holly to keep Lister sane. At first he was a soft light hologram, but is now a hard light hologram and able to lead a relatively normal life.

Rimmer is definitely my favourite character as he is just so pathetic!

My favourite Rimmer quote:
"You are a total, total... a word has yet to be invented to describe how totally whatever-it-is you are, but you are one. And a total, total one at that!"

DAVE LISTER
Craig Charles

Of the 169 (?) people aboard Red Dwarf, David Lister ranked number 1-6-9. He was a third technician, and therefore had to take orders from Rimmer, not a pleasant task. Lister was sent to stasis because he bought an unquarantined animal aboard the ship, and so survived the radiation leak, and is now the last human being alive. But he happens to be marooned three million years in deep space! But that's ok, because Lister can hardly be classified as human. He is the most slobby, unsophisticated, beer-drinking, cigarette smoking, space bum anyone has ever had the misfortune to meet. But then what can you expect from someone who was abandoned and left in a card board box under a pool table in Liverpool when they were only six weeks old?

My favourite Lister quote:
"Yee-es! Fight that flab!"

Cat

CAT
Danny John-Jules

During the radiation leak, Lister's cat, Frankenstein, was safely sealed in the hold. Frankenstein was pregnant. During the three million years Lister was in stasis, the offspring of Frankenstein evolved. They became Felis Sapiens, who believed that their God, Cloister, would one day return and take them to the promised land of Fushal.

So that's how the Cat came to be aboard Red Dwarf. (Cloister is Lister, and Fushal is Fiji.) The Cat is extremely vain, believing himself to be the best looking guy in the whole of history, and especially aboard Red Dwarf. He has a wardrobe the size of Europe, and changes suits about ten times a day.

My favourite Cat quote:
"Be cool, stay slinky, I'm on the case!"

KRYTEN
Robert Llewellyn

Kryten's full name is Kryten 2X4B 523P. He is a Series 4000 Mechanoid, created by Professor Mammett in the 23rd century. The RD Posse came across Kryten on a moon, where his ship, the Nova 5, had crashed centuries before. Kryten is extremely nuerotic. He adores cleaning, and doing house hold chores, mostly because he is a sanitation droid. =) But stored in his memory chip is boundless information that has helped the crew out time and again.

Kryten is my second favourite character in the show, because he is just so funny and innocent, it's adorable!

My favourite Kryten quote:
"The only truly terrible thing is that, as my adopted owner, you have to die with me."

Kochanski

KRISTINE KOCHANSKI
Chloe Annett

Kristine Kochanski is a relatively new addition to the Red Dwarf crew, although the character has been mentioned ever since the first episode. (Up until series 7, KK was played by CP Grogran.) In this dimension, KK got wiped out in the radiation leak, but as we all know, there are an infinite number of dimensions. In one that the RD posse happened to come across, they find that in that universe, it was Kochanski that was sent into stasis, so she survived, and Lister was a hologram. By a strange series of events, Kochanski gets stuck in our universe, much to Lister's delight.

There's not a whole lot to say about Kochanski. She was apparantly a spoilt brat who went to cyber school. She joined the space corps, but was never really cut out for it because there wasn't any cottage cheese with pineapple chunks on board, and shopping was really unlikely. (well... DUH!) She is definitely not my most favourite character...

Holly
Norman Lovett & Hattie Hayridge

Red Dwarf's onboard computer is Holly, a 10th generation AI hologrammatic computer with the IQ of 6000. But then he got marooned in deep space by himself for three million years and now suffers from computer senility, so the IQ is expected to be somewhat less than that.

Holly was male for the first two series of RD, but then performed a head swap operation after falling in love with a computer in a parallel universe, and became female for the next three. After that, Holly was lost when the crew lost RD for two series. But when RD was reconstructed in series 8, the male Holly was back to entertain us with his hot off the press information that was delivered at least 2 minutes before it was officially announced.

My favourite Holly quote:
"Alright dudes, what's going down in groove town then?"
