77 Sunset Strip

Sunset Strip aired on Fridays at 9:00 on ABC from October 1958 to September 1964.

The show was created by Roy Huggins. Huggins later dreamed up such classic television shows as 'The Rockford Files', 'Alias Smith and Jones', "Maverick", and 'The Fugitive'.

On '77 Sunset Strip', former OSS officer Stu Bailey (Efrem Zimbalist, Jr.) and former undercover agent Jeff Spencer (Roger Smith) were the hip, swinging, martini swilling private eyes that worked out of their office located at 77 Sunset Boulevard.

Their brand-new sports cars shared a driveway with a swinging nightspot called Dino's.

Parking the cars at Dino's was Gerald Lloyd Kookson II, aka "Kookie" (Edd Byrnes) who snapped his fingers in beatnick style all the way to genuine teen idol status.

Roger Smith, Efrem Zimbalist Jr., Edd Byrnes and Richard Long of 77 Sunset Strip on the cover.

Celebrities struggling with how to characterize their success is nothing new. Edd Byrnes, the up-and-comer on 77 Sunset Strip, can't quite figure it out, either. "People ask me why I want to be an actor, and I'll say it's because I want a crazy pad and let's live, man," he tells TV Guide. "Then they say, how do I like it now that I'm here, and I'll say, OK, I've got it made and it's miserable."

The most exciting people pass you by
