There is no one absolute record of the Immortals and their origins and how they came about upon
earth despite the fact that our organization has been around for several thousands of years.
Rumors have flown left and right because of this, even among our members. Several tales
have developed around the office. Some have felt that they represent the tools of satan and are
out to rule all mankind. Because of this idea, the
Renegade Watchers,
a.k.a the Hunters, were organized. Others view them from a historical point of view and have tried
to trace to their origins back as far as Adam and Eve. While as funny as it may sound, others feel
that they are actually aliens brought here to earth as punishment for their crimes and the battles
that they must go through are their retribution. The only observations and clues to the past of the
Immortals is that many if not all of them are without natural parents. Many were found on doorsteps
or found out on streets and trained. For this reason, a theory has developed that the
Quickening
may create many of them. But as this theory has not been proved, it holds no merit at this time.
We will continue studies further into their pasts and will update when anything is found out.

The "Quickening" is probably the most perplexing topic pertaining to the Immortals. There is
no exact definition about it. When seen from a distance, it looks as if the Immortal is a
huge lightning rod as bolt after bolt strikes through him or her. From recordings in our database
and countless observations and many overheard conversations, we have devised a sort of semi-definition
about what this entity is. We believe that the Quickening is the knowledge and power and the soul
of the Immortal in which it is in. It is a being in itself but contained in the Immortal. It is
the reason that many Immortals heal fast. Although it has its limits, as observed when Xavier St.
Cloud lost his hand. Although, it is also our belief that with time and had not Duncan MacLeod taken
his head, the Quickening might have regenerated the hand. The Immortals differ on their pursuit of
other Immortal Quickenings. Many are addicted to the rush that they feel from them and actively
pursue others, while there are those that choose to sit back and wait. And through gossip, the idea of the
Gathering
and the
Prize
have been introduced in our records. Those topics are covered later on in this page.

As written above, the Gathering and the Prize are mentioned often from the mouths of the Immortals.
What we have been able to develop from this is that the Gathering is what is going on at this time.
It is said to be the time when all the Immortals "gather" together into one place to battle to the last.
In doing this, their ultimate pursuit is the Prize. What the prize exactly is, nobody knows, not even
the Immortals themselves. All it is said to be is all the accumulative power of the Immortals. But
how this will take affect or how it will show its form is not quite known. Only the few Quickenings we
see in our recordings give us a slight idea. Our only hope is that an Immortal with a good heart is the
last one to receive it, because otherwise, the Prize could be the doom of man. As always, we'll continue
to investigate and record any new information on this topic.

1, Beheadings on
Holy Ground
are forbidden and result in lose of Quickening.
2. Fights are to be one-on-one. No team combats are to be allowed.
3. Including of mortals in battles is also not allowed.
4. In the end, "There can be only one", meaning that the Immortals must battle to the death until only
one remains.
Although these rules exist, their sanctity has been defiled as all but the last one has been broken.
The first one was broken when two Immortals fought in Pompea, Italy. Soon after the city was flooded
with lava from a local volcano. The second was broken when the Immortal Larka got his minions to
try to take down Duncan MacLeod and even on Holy Ground. The third rule was broken when Xavier St. Cloud
teamed up with members of the Renegade Watchers to take down a number of Immortals. Yet there are
some Immortals who still follow the rules to the tee, but most are good in nature whereas the evil
Immortals or those we feel whose intentions are not for the better of man don't care one bit about them.
As for the last rule, that is yet to be seen, but one thing is for sure, we'll be there to see if it
is one way or the other.

The "Renegade" Watchers, also known as the "Hunters", are a bad blemish on our fairly smooth operation. Headed by the late
James Horton, these group of Watchers sought out the death of all Immortals. It was their sole belief that the Immortals
were out to destroy mankind. This idea was first generated by Horton. We can only speculate where these thoughts
developed in his mind. It is our belief that the time that he spent chronicling the lives of
The Kurgan
might have sent him over the edge, for it was the Kurgan whose soul life was set out on destroying everything
in his path, whether it they be mortal or Immortal. In 1993, the "Renegade" Watchers came out of hiding
when they took one of the "good" guys. It was by their actions that the great
Darius.
In doing so, they drew the wrath of one of Darius' life long friends,
Duncan MacLeod.
Through hard research, Duncan discovered the "Hunters" and Horton soon became his soul enemy. There were many
incidents associated with the "Renegade" Watchers, some of which looked to have cost Horton his life. But somehow
he always prevailed and reappeared. There was even a time in which Horton teamed up with the devious
Xavier St. Cloud.
The two formed an "unholy alliance". After sparing Xavier's life, Horton helped Xavier track down other Immortals and
kill them, all the while promisiing to allow Xavier to be the last. But that all came to an end when
Duncan beheaded Xavier. Left with nothing to do and bent on ending MacLeod's life, Horton pulled his
final trick out of his bag. He helped a prison inmate escape and through careful surgery, turned her into an
exact copy of Tessa, the love of Duncan's life for a number of years, hoping this would draw MacLeod's attention
away from him and making Duncan an easy target. But being older and wiser, Duncan soon turned up
Horton's scheme, and in the cemetary where Tessa herself was buried, Horton's scheme unraveled. Left with nothing to
do, Horton tried to run but was caprtured by Duncan. And in the swift motion of a blade, Duncan ran Horton through.
And this time, Horton would not return. Since this time, there have been no reported events associated with
the "Renegade" Watchers. Further investigation will develop and all members who have not been found
guilty will be tried and convicted.
