Captive The Dominion picked Damar to lead the people of Cardassia after Dukat's capture and subsequent disappearance following the loss of Deep Space Nine. However, Damar had little control over the affairs of state in the Cardassian Union. Weyoun held the real power, and he in turn submitted to the will of his gods, the Founders. The uneasiness with which Damar accepted his role as voicebox of the Dominion was evident in the eyes of the four genetically engineered mutants visiting Deep Space Nine who witnessed Damar's formal address to the Federation. Damar had proposed a peace treaty unwillingly, they declared, and that there was someone who forced the words into his mouth. The Federation was glad to accept, and peace talks commenced the next day on Deep Space Nine. From the demeanor of Weyoun and the passivity of Damar in general, it was apparent who was the real master of Cardassia. Weyoun outlined a proposal to redraw disputed Cardassian/Federation territory by allowing whomever with de facto control over the system to claim it. In the end the proposal would cede more territory to the Federation, with the Dominion only claiming some hostile, apparently wasteland systems. A very tempting offer, but the four mutants who watched the conference tapes came at the conclusion that the Dominion secretly wanted the Kabrel system to manufacture Ketracel White in the Alpha Quadrant, a necessary substance to maintain the Dominion's ranks of Jem'Hadar soldiers. However, they also calculated that the Dominion war would result in ultimate defeat for the Federation and that by surrendering now, billions of lives would be saved. So, taking the fate of the future into their own hands, the four arranged to meet with Weyoun and Damar, saying they possess important strategic and tactical information that could aid the Dominion win its war against the Federation. When Odo intercepted the four and waited for Weyoun and Damar with his security team in a cargo bay, Weyoun and Damar (more Weyoun and less Damar) claimed no knowledge of a meeting and pretended to have lost themselves. Disregarding the Prophets' ominous warnings not to leave Bajor, he chose to assume the role of Starfleet captain and headed the Federation/Klingon/Romulan fleet. The first target was the Chin'toka System, picked for its diminished defenses and the recent pullout of Dominion troops. Unbeknownst to him, the Cardassians had already deployed powerful orbital weapons platforms throughout the system to make up for the lack of manpower. Before the deployment of the weapons, Weyoun severely berated Damar for not having the weapons in working condition earlier. Momentarily before the invasion force had arrived, the platforms roared to life and caused serious damage to many ships. I believe you owe me an apology, Damar said to Weyoun. So I do, conceded Weyoun. In the end the resourceful crew aboard the Defiant managed to destroy the common power source and render the weapons useless (Star Wars: Episode DS9?). Back on the station, Dukat, possessed by the Pah-wraith he had released from an ancient Bajoran idol, materialized in the Bajoran shrine on the Promenade and injured Dax critically with some sort of energy pulse. He proceeded to destroy the sacred orb, causing the wormhole to invert itself and disappear. Dukat left Jadzia, who died later in the Infirmary, but the heroic doctor saved the Dax symbiont and transported it back to the Trill homeworld immediately. Damar watching in stony silence the Chin'toka battle on a viewscreen in Cardassia Prime. Damar and the sickeningly false smile of Weyoun greet their unexpected visitor: Dukat. Dukat claims he has discovered the key to destroying Sisko and the Federation. Damar and Weyoun looks on skeptically at what Dukat claims to be an "ally". This idol contains an entrapped Pagh-Wraith, evil counterpart to the wormhole alien "Prophets". Constable Odo was originally lured into Dominion territory by what he thought to be his Cardassian informant, but found Weyoun waiting for him instead instead. Suspecting a Dominion plot, Odo was shocked when he heard Weyoun planned to defect to the Federation. There being little he could do, Odo took Weyoun back to Deep Space Nine. En route back to the station, a transmission from Cardassia Prime with both Weyoun and Damar speaking revealed that the Weyoun next to Odo was Weyoun 6, a "defective clone" brought into existence after the unfortunate transporter accident of the illustrious Weyoun 5. No. 6 (the one with Odo) believed that believed the Dominion was wrong in promoting warfare, and to right the wrong, chose to defect to the Federation. Weyoun 7 was apologetic for intruding on the Founder, but could Odo please return the renegade Weyoun to the Dominion. When Odo refused, two choices presented themselves to No. 7, either let No. 6 go back and potentially turn the war in the favor of the Federation, or kill Odo's runabout and cause the death of one of his gods. Wnconcerned with Weyoun 7's internal turmoil, Damar said, Kill Odo. Order your Jem'Hadar to fire and they'll never know who's inside. Weyoun No. 7 agreed in the end and ordered an attack. When it became apparent there was no hope of escape, Weyoun No. 6, showing altruism beyond his original genetic engineering, offered to activate the termination implant standard to all Vorta clones. Before No. 6 died, however, he revealed to Odo that the other Founders were dying from a disease spread through the Great Link, and that Odo appeared to be the only one unaffected. Damar with the newly minted Weyoun 7 at his side. No.7 is urging Odo to "return" the "defective" Weyoun6 to the Dominion. Damar devises a plan to make Jem'Hadar fire upon Odo and Weyoun6 despite the fact that Odo is considered a Founder. "Who's to know Odo is on-board?" He asks Weyoun. Damar and Weyoun answer the female Founders' question about the situation. Shielded from the truth, she leaves both of them to their business. The first episode of the Final Chapter features a new Damar that we have never seen before. We see a contemplative Damar, one who realizes what the Dominion has done to Cardassia. One who knows the path he has led as compliant Dominion pawn was wrong. Worf was reported as missing in action during a fierce skirmish with the Dominion. When the Defiant called off the search party after Worf could not be found, Lt. Ezri Dax, the new Dax host, went out to find him regardless of Sisko's orders or for her own safety. Back on Cardassia Prime, the female Founder's condition deteriorated rapidly, yet she still tried to hide it from the Cardassians, though just barely. Weyoun and the rest of the Vortas frantically searched for a cure, but all the rounds of Dominion's Vorta medical personnel cloned for this project could make no headway. Alone by herself and hurtling past the plasma columns Badlands, Ezri later found Worf in an escape pod drifting alone. On the way home, Jem'Hadar attacked an destroyed their runabout and both were forced to abandon ship in the Goralis system. Unfortunately, they didn't take a comm unit before beam-down and were stranded on the deserted planet until some Breen captured them in an ambush. In his quarters with a woman by his side, Damar was surprised by Dukat appearing dressed in civilian clothing one night to ask for a favor. Loyal to the last, Damar agreed to let Dukat get what he wanted. When Damar went to see Dukat again, a look of disbelief and shock passed over Damar's usually stoic countenance. Dukat had surgically altered his appearance to look like a Bajoran. Unsure of what plans Dukat had, Damar could only hope the surgeon was as good at returning Dukat to his original state as he was in altering it. Weyoun was aware of Dukat's presence and warned Damar against trying something foolish. He also informed Damar that he was to ready himself to go somewhere early the next day. When Damar asked where, Weyoun waved him away. It doesn't concern you. Weyoun still dominates Damar and dictates his every move. Dukat walks in on Damar and his woman. Kai Winn, visiting Sisko on Deep Space Nine to congratulate the Emissary on his upcoming wedding, had a long-awaited vision from the Prophets, who reveal that a "Guide" of the land will soon visit her. The Prophets told her that together, the two will lead to Bajor's Restoration. Damar helped Dukat pack for his journey and confided in him the belief that he was leading Cardassia down the wrong path. You were once the leader of Cardassia, he told Dukat, You can be a leader once again. However, Dukat shook his head and smiled. He had learned of the love of the Pagh Wraiths and politics no longer beckoned. Instead, he clasped Damar's hand, telling him that it was in him that the future of Cardassia lies. Dukat, now farmer Anjohl of Bajor, then arrived on Deep Space Nine to seek an audience with the Kai. She instantly believed him to be her guide when he revealed that he was a farmer of the land. The two became romantically involved when Dukat's magnetic attraction, even as a Bajoran, overcame the Kai. Meanwhile, Weyoun and the Female Shapeshifter, still suffering from the disease that was killing her people, traveled on a Jem'Hadar battleship to a rendezvous point. Ezri and Worf, captives of the Breen, were routinely tortured to extract useful information. As the Jem'Hadar ship sped towards its destination, Breen soldiers transported themselves with Worf and Ezri to the Jem'Hadar bridge. Worf, Ezri, and Damar were equally taken aback when Weyoun announced the birth of an alliance between the Dominion and the Breen. Dukat telling Damar he can lead Cardassia down the right path. Damar takes to drink, but realizes what he has become as he looks into the mirror. Damar is as shocked as Worf and Ezri when he learns the the Breen have allied themselves with the Dominion. Damar, Worf, and Ezri witnessed the female Founder talk of a treaty between the Breens and the Dominion which would speed the destruction of the Federation. However, Damar learned that the Breen asked for concessions from Cardassia which Weyoun had agreed to without his permission. His protests fell on deaf ears, and Weyoun explained it away by saying Cardassia would gain more than enough territory after the Federation is defeated. After brutal interrogations, Ezri and Worf heard that Weyoun planned to put them to death after completion of their questioning. When Weyoun came into their holding cell and remarked how it was a pity Dr. Bashir would never learn of Ezri's feelings for him, an enraged Worf broke Weyoun's neck, instantly killing the Vorta mid-smirk. Damar stood stunned for a moment, then knelt down by the dead Weyoun ... and let out a long, satisfied peal of laughter. He turned to look at the restrained Worf, saying, You should have killed me. He can be replaced, but there's only one Damar. Already angered by the alliance with the Breen, Damar was even more disturbed when the new Weyoun clone (number 8, for those of you who have lost track) allowed Thot Gor unrestricted classified access to Cardassian data. This was the final straw. There was bad blood between Cardassians and Breens, true, but to be allies, to be ignored by Weyoun in favor of Thot Gor, to compromise Cardassian safety, and above all, to allow Cardassians to live under tyranny was too much, and Damar finally decided to take action. Worf and Ezri succeeded in breaking out of their cell, but were quickly apprehended on their first attempt. On the day their execution was scheduled, Legate Damar came personally to oversee the proceedings. When walking down the corridor to what seemed like certain doom, Worf and Ezri were completely shocked when phaser blasts fired behind them, and two Jem'Hadar fell. Legate Damar's work. He stooped down and offered the fallen soldiers' weapons to the two, then gave them information for an escape route. Trust me, he told the skeptical couple, or stay here and be executed. Ezri and Worf decided to take a chance. Before they left, Damar gave one last parting message: Tell the Federation they have an ally in Cardassia. Damar is angry at Weyoun's distribution of Cardassian territory to the Breens. Damar protests to no avail his objections to handing over Cardassian territory to the Breens. Damar leans over a very dead Weyoun... and laughs out loud in sheer enjoyment. Damar's advice for Weyoun 8 : Maybe you should go talk to Worf again. Damar realizes that classified Cardassian data is being accessed by the Breen. Damar's lack of power in his own land hits home. Damar has taken to using kanar to wash down his troubles. Damar ends his career as a Dominion political puppet.
