1997 September

GILLIAN ANDERSON refuses to use the Internet - because she's worried it will turn her into a computer nerd with no life. The flame-haired stunner, who plays Agent DANA SCULLY in the spooky TV series, has seen how much time her family spend surfing the Internet. And she is determined not to let herself get sucked in as well. Anderson says, "My family seems to spend hours and hours on the net. "And I'm a little nervous that all the rest of the responsibilities in my life will fall away if I were to hook up."

DAVID DUCHOVNY has talk show titan JAY LENO to thank for hooking him up with his wife actress TEA LEONI. The budding stars first met in 1992 when they were invited to lunch by the researchers on the TONIGHT SHOW to see if they were suitable to guest with Leno. And even though they didn't tie the knot until five years later (JUL97), the seeds of their love started blossoming with the chance meeting. The X-FILES hunk explains, "There was this primitive vetting procedure before you got invited on the show and me and Tea were invited to lunch. "Tea was outgoing and I was morose and ingoing so she was told to be booked straight away for the show and I was told to be booked back to New York." The couple, who share the same agent met again in January of this year (97), and after a whirlwind romance they tied the knot in a hush-hush ceremony.

DAVID DUCHOVNY had an alarming time when he tried to sneak into his wife's home. The sci-fi stud, who plays special agent FOX MULDER in the hit series, was given the keys to actress TEA LEONI's Los Angeles home while she was out of town. But he forgot the code to the alarm system and ended up being quizzed by armed guards. Duchovny explains, "The bells all started to go off and then the telephone went off with a security guy asking if I was robbing the place. "I explained what had happened but they still sent a guy out to investigate. So I got out by FBI card. And he said, 'Oh you are detective Mulder.' "Everyone gets it wrong, I've been called DR Mulder, Lance Corporal Mulder, Captain Mulder, but never special agent Mulder."

DAVID DUCHOVNY is such a romantic he still asks wife TEA LEONI to marry him every day. The X-FILES hunk has to pinch himself to see if he really did tie the knot, and just to double check he pops the question on a regular basis. He admits, "I go `Will you marry me?' and she'll say `Yes' and I'll say `When?' and so it goes on. The actor gushes, "It's really, really silly but we like it."

Parroty Interactive, the humor division of Palladium Interactive, has shipped "a paranoid paranormal CD-ROM parody" of the The X-Files, at an estimated price of $19.95. The X-Fools, an interactive CD-ROM, was developed by the makers of PYST, the best-selling CD-ROM game in history. The X-Fools spoofs The X-Files by introducing two ultra paranoid ex-FBI agents, Mully and Scudder, who invite the user to become an "agent trainee" and be subjected to a deprogramming regimen of interactive games, trivia and multimedia vignettes. The X-Fools also offers a contest entitled "The Conspiracy Quest", where individuals can win great prizes by solving an "X-Fool-ish" password puzzle. The X-Fools offers a humorous and refreshing opportunity to parody what has almost become a national pastime of paranormal paranoia for millions of people. This game unveils the previously unseen elements of a conspiracy. For example, a close-up of Ronald Reagan's neck reveals a topographical map of Mars. And there are sneak peeks of Mad About UFOs, Roswell O'Donnell, Melrose Space and other paranoid parodies of familiar shows too. The X-Fools web site address is:  http://www.xfools.com.

DAVID DUCHOVNY wants to get closer to his new wife TEA LEONI - and take GILLIAN ANDERSON with him. Duchovny wants producers of the hit show to move filming from Vancouver, Canada to Los Angeles to get him 1,000 miles (1,600 km) closer to Leoni - who makes her sitcom THE NAKED TRUTH there. Executive producer CHRIS CARTER says there have been "preliminary discussions" about moving the show south.

Duchovny's new movie, "Playing God", was released on October 17th. He plays a surgeon addicted to narcotics who relies on the mob for drug supply. It's best described as a violent gangster film. Gillian appeared in two films but both were not main parts. In "The Mighty", which also stars Sharon Stone, she plays an alcoholic. The producers of the film were apparantly very happy with Gillian describing her as "incredible". She also managed to get herself a very small part involving only a few minutes of screen time in "Hellcab" which is about the day in the life of a cab driver. She plays a small character named the "South Side Girl" who gets in the cab and has a fight with her boyfriend.

William B. Davis has recently said that he would like a stunt double to smoke his cigarettes. Basically he said that the herbal cigarettes that he is made to smoke taste disgusting and he has already burnt his tongue many times during takes. Wonder if CC will give him what he wants!

GILLIAN ANDERSON has to stand on a box to measure up to co-star DAVID DUCHOVNY. The 5ft 2in (157cm) redhead, who plays FBI agent DANA SCULLY, has admitted the secret of her close-ups with 6ft (183cm) Duchovny in the cult TV show. Each time she and FOX MULDER appear next to each other, she's stood on a crate. And she reveals, "Sometimes, in a very serious scene, I forget that I'm on the box and I fall right off it."

X-FILES actor DAVID DUCHOVNY hates to be seen as mysterious like alien mad AGENT MULDER - he wants to be thought of as spiritual. The AGENT MULDER actor remembers his father dropped the 'h' from his name because he was tired of it being mispronounced. But Duchovny is more concerned that people understand what the name means than how it sounds. He says, "I'm told that the name means spiritual in Russian and the Slavic languages which I think is beautiful. I don't care how people spell it as long as they get the meaning." Duchovny might be spiritual, but he admits the only spirits that his character Agent Mulder cares about are ones from outer space. He says, "It's probably fair to day that Mulder thinks about UFO's in the same way other men think about sex." Even if Agent Mulder never thinks about sex, his fans certainly do - Duchovny received a deluge of fan mail following an episode of the X-Files where he wore a pair of small red swimming trunks. He says, "It's all thanks to those swimming trunks. Maybe I'll donate them to a museum and they can stuff them with two plums and a gherkin and put them on display."

On Septemer 14th X-FILES star GILLIAN ANDERSON won EMMY award as the best drama actress and blushed as she was presented with her statuette by longtime hero, British star HELEN MIRREN. Gillian quipped, "I'm more nervous about meeting you than picking up this award." Mirren was celebrating herself later when her gritty crime show PRIME SUSPECT FIVE picked up the best miniseries Emmy. GILLIAN ANDERSON has no plans to quit her role as sci fi sleuth AGENT SCULLY - as long as the scripts continue to be out of this world. Speaking at EMMY AWARDS in California, the actress said, "I think the writers still have a lot of ideas. "Hopefully we'll go for as long as it remains fresh, compact and interesting and we don't start repeating

GILLIAN ANDERSON isn't letting her EMMY AWARD go to her head. The stunning redhead has taken out a full-page advertisement in Hollywood trade papers VARIETY and HOLLYWOOD REPORTER, thanking all her co-workers on the show for her achievements. Some of her fellow workmates were apparently upset that Anderson failed to include them in her thank-you speech at the Emmy Awards on Sunday (09.14). But Anderson doesn't want them to think she forgot about them. Her advertisements thanked everyone on The X-Files, specifically the spooky show's creator CHRIS CARTER and co-star DAVID DUCHOVNY. Anderson wrote to Duchovny, "Your talent has always inspired me, without your MULDER there would be no SCULLY."

DAVID DUCHOVNY has been invited to return to his Scottish roots and become the chief of the clan MacFARLANE. The boss of the MACFARLANE SOCIETY, with 1,000 members in North America, says the top job is open to the dishy American star, 36, if he can prove he's a direct descendant. And should he pass the lineage test set by LORD LYON in Edinburgh, his mission will be to clear the name of a tribe banished from Scotland in the 18th century for cattle rustling. MacFarlane Society president RICHARD MILLER, who lives in Cincinnati, North Kentucky, says, "Part of our quest is to find a chief, someone of the proper lineage who is acceptable to Lord Lyon. "We have had a couple of people who have applied but neither were able to prove to the satisfaction of Scotland that they are direct lineage. "Someone may appear and that person could be David Duchovny, if he can prove to Lord Lyon he's a direct descendant. "And then as a member of the board of clan chiefs he might be able to do something to enhance the clan's standing." New Yorker Duchovny, whose mother hails from Whitehills in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, only recently discovered he was a descendant of the MacFarlane clan.

David was recently quoted as saying that he thinks Mulder should have a girlfriend in the upcoming X-Files movie. His exact words were, "I want Mulder to have a life outside of the investigative part and outside of the quest to find his sister. I'd like to take him into other areas and the obvious way would be either with Scully romantically or another woman." Hopefully, CC will give him what he wants!

GILLIAN ANDERSON is in a real hurry to head down the aisle - she wants to marry lover ROD ROWLAND after her divorce comes through next month. The 29-year-old redhead vowed she would not wed again after her first marriage to Canadian CLYDE KLOTZ hit the rocks last October. But according to British tabloid THE SUN, Anderson is now planning a quickie ceremony with actor Rowland. Her wedding plans could mean a bitter custody battle with her estranged husband over their three-year-old daughter PIPER. Klotz is also threatening to write a book on his life with Anderson.

DAVID DUCHOVNY is used to dealing with the unexplained - but love left him flabbergasted. The AGENT MULDER actor recalls that people always used to tell him that he would know when it was the right time to get married. But the star says, "I thought that was silly because that feeling was something that I had never experienced." Then Duchovny met his present wife TEA LEONI - and his feelings turned almost supernatural. He says, "It isn't something that you can understand until it happens to you. It was completely obvious that we should marry, but there was no thinking involved. "My heart told me that this was the right woman and the right time, that was all." Once Duchovny had made his decision it was easier than any of his cases in the X-Files. He says, "There was no agonising over things. No weighing everything up. It was just right." The only similarity to his detective work was that his decision to get involved in a cover-up.

Fox has reportedly decided against rerunning The X-Files episode "Home" due to its graphic content, which includes incest, inbreeding and a particularly nasty bludgeoning scene. "Home" ran with a parental warning advisory when it first aired and, for good or ill, quickly became one of the most talked about episodes in a widely talked about series (they didn't show it in Germany too). Meanwhile, other reports say that Fox has finally decided to open up The X-Files for licensing and merchadising as part of its push for the X movie due out next year.

DAVID DUCHOVNY's marriage to actress TEA LEONI was so secret even his X-FILES co-star GILLIAN ANDERSON didn't know about it. She only learned of his marriage to FLIRTING WITH DISASTER star Leoni when she read it in the newspapers. Anderson says, "I was sort of surprised he didn't tell me first." Rumours circulated for days before the church garden ceremony in New York in May (97), which was attended by about a dozen members of the couple's families. Anderson, who plays agent DANA SCULLY, adds, "But I don't tell him stuff either. He's a friend and I care about him and once in a while we share intimate information." But the redhead claims she had suspected something was afoot. She says, "I knew just the way they were together that there was something different about the relationship than there'd been with the previous girlfriend."

There's no mystery about what TV show Scottish parents GRANT and DIANE McLACHLAN love - they've named their baby FOX MULDER. The X-FILES fans say their little boy is out of this world after being born five weeks early on July 23. Fox - who shares his name with the FBI agent played by DAVID DUCHOVNY - spent a month in an intensive care unit in Dundee after his premature birth. Diane, 29, says, "We felt is was a miraculous survival so we needed a special name for our baby. "If it had been a girl we would have called her DANA SCULLY, after GILLIAN ANDERSON's character."
