Bearing the kind of sharp-eyed, vaguely sinister good looks that
often get actors cast as villains, TIMOTHY OLYPHANT first impressed
film audiences playing none other than Sidney Prescott's (Neve
Campbell) psycopathic stalker in the highly anticipated sequel
"Scream 2."
Born in Hawaii on May 20, 1968, Olyphant grew up in California.
After attending the University of California, the actor made his
professional debut in the Playwright Horizon's production of
"The Monogamist," for which he won a Theatre World Award for
Outstanding Debut Performance. He also appeared in the stage
adaptation of humorist David Sedaris' essay collection, "The Santa
Land Diaries."
In 1996, Olyphant made the jump to the big screen, with a small
but memorable role as an arrogant young director in "The First
Wives' Club." A year later, Olyphant earned a coveted part in Wes
Craven's successful sequel
"Scream 2." He soon appeared in Danny
Boyle's "A Life Less Oridanary" and Nick Davis' "1999."
In 1998, Olyphant gave a scene-stealing performance as a seemingly
ruthless drug dealer in "Go," managing to stand out in an ensemble
cast that included Sarah Polley, Katie Holmes, Taye Diggs and
Scott Wolf.
More recently, Olyphant starred in the farcial comedy "No Vacancy"
with Christina Ricci and "Advice from a Caterpillar." He had the
lead role of a gay photographer in "The Broken Hearts Club" with
Dean Cain, which premiered at the 2000 Sundance Film Festival. He
also appeared in the hit action film "Gone in 60 Seconds" starring
Academy Award® winners Nicolas Cage, Robert Duvall and Angelina
Jolie, in which he played a detective on the trail of a car thief
(Cage), and "Auggie Rose" costarring Anne Heche. Additionally,
Olyphant was briefly seen as Monica Potter's unfaithful boyfriend
in the romantic comedy "Head Over Heels."
Olyphant was recently seen opposite Mark Wahlberg in "Rock Star."
He will next star in "The Safety of Objects" with Glenn Close,
"Diablo," "Coastlines" and "Dreamcatcher."
Olyphant starred in the acclaimed television films "When Trumpets
Fade," a critically-acclaimed World War II drama for HBO and
"Ellen Foster." He also made several appearances on the series
"High Incident" and has guest-starred on HBO's "Sex and the City."
Olyphant swam competitively in the University of Southern
California and was a US National Finalist in the 200 individual
medley.
