A Superb Singapura at St. George Show, Sept. 2001 An Aristocratic Abyssinian at St. Ives Show, March 2001 Judging is one of the most exciting challenges that I have taken into my lifestyle. It has opened a whole new arena in my life. Aside from the wonderful opportunity to travel; there is the excitement of see some Fabulous Felines. In 1994 when I started the Group 2 (Siamese and Oriental) course, I was very naive about cats although I had been a owner of Burmese since the age of 7, a breeder and exhibitor for over 20 years; and a steward for 10 years. This naivety provided some interesting and amusing experiences which help me to form some great friendships among the cat fraternity. Group 2 is a great way to begin as there is only one type standard but lots of coat patterns and colours. The Siamese and Oriental cats are supremely elegant and refined. They have a long tubular body, ballerina legs, an elegant neck and a equilateral triangle for their head type combined with those EARS are fantastic. They have gentle loving natures and are a joy to handle. It is a privilege to be asked to judge these wonderful cats. After qualifying in 1996 in Group 2, I then progressed to Group 3 (Other Shorthairs) cats. This is the most difficult as there are so many different breeds to learn and so many new ones being imported and as well as new breeds being developed. There are the Beautiful Burmese, the Aristocratic Abyssinians and Somali, the Teddy Bear British, the Remarkable Russians, the Unique Scottish Fold and Manx, the "ET" Devon and "Greyhound" Cornish Rexes, the cat of hearts in the Korat, and of course Australian own Australian Mists. New imports has seen the Singupura, the Sphynx, the Ocicat, and the Bengal as well as the new breeds of Burmilla and Tonkinese. There were so many judges, exhibitors and owners who help me understand this large group and I would like to thanks the members of the former RASCC which developed into Australia's newest cat organisation, the New South Wales Cat Fancier's Association. In 1998 I finally became an all breeds shorthair judge and had many wonderful judging assignments both in the city and country. As the new millennium approached, I wanted to be a part of the most progressive cat fancy in Australia and joined Waratah National Cat Alliance with their association with many international organisations as CFA in the USA and FIFe in Europe. I also began the Group 1 (Longhair & Semi-Longhair) course. This course is remarkable as the ACF have a national criteria for all judges. We had some top Australian judges for instructors who presented the Persian, the Exotic, the Maine Coon, the Birman, the Ragdoll, Turkish Van, and the Norwegian Forest Cat. Bambi Edwards coordinated the course. After a theory and practical exam, I am now a Longhair Judge. In 2002, I then became a International All Breeds Judge. |
