Toni Rosario's story
Hey Hoz, This story of my NES collecting days will be a great "stress reliever" from school tomorrow. It all started in Sept 94, actually late August when everybody was getting ready for going back to school. I hadn't played my NES since 1993 cause that was when I had my Super and we disconnected the NES for a while and when connecting it back again, I hadn't played the NES much in 93'. So I was like "whoa, hold up! I can't go another year playing NES 3 times in a year. So the same day, I didn't feel like playing any, so I took a walk around the neighborhood and I ran into this boy I had never seen before. His name was Andre. Andre asked me, "Do you still play NES a lot?" So I said, "mmm...not much I' m thinking bout playing it again, so Andre came to my house for only 5 min. This is how I got the following games:StriderMega Man 1 Andre left my house and came back with his NES games. We played them to death and like u, I said "ok this is getting good now." From that minute on to this day my NES hype returned. When it was time for Andre to go, he said I can keep Strider and Mega Man. Five days later I finished both games in two seperate days. Two months later in October, my brother had came home from work and told me at our local video store called Video World had opened a used game retailer deep within the store called the "Game Trader". So after I got home from school on a Thursday, my dad had took me over there to see how it is. That is how I got the games 10 Yard Fight and Golgo 13. Most of the games over there was 5 a piece. So the two games I just mentioned about were that price. Just about all of Capcom's classic games whose labels had the virtual reality grid boxes behind the murals were 12.95. Then one year later in Feb. 1995, I had asked my dad if I could order 3 games from FuncoLand thru the mail. 3 weeks later, the games came. That is how I got Gradius, Popeye, and Urban Champion. The day after the three games came in, which was a Saturday, me and my Mother went to the Trader once again and bought a whole slew of games. That is how I got Dragon Warrior, Flying Dragon:Secret Scrolls, Adventures of Lolo, and Pro Wrestling. The first day of our summer vacation was here, and it was a week before my brother's graduation from Prince George High School. The firstweekend, me and my dad took a little drive to the capital of Va., Richmond. There I spotted another Video World (In Virginia, that video store chain is everywhere in this state) and I spotted another Game Trader place. There they were selling games as cheaper than the one I went to. My first Game Trader attendance was in the Video World Location in the city called Colonial Heights. But at that location in Richmond, they were having a sidewalk sale outside the store. some games were being sold for 2 bucks. That is how I got Stinger, Megaman 2, Baseball, Rush N' Attack, and bought two more and forgot what they were. Two weeks later, I saw that every Game Trader was losing existence. But another store called Movie Time was getting rid of all of their NES games. But they still had them for rental. I went there and I rented Megaman 3 and Section Z. When it was time to take them back, I told dad they were really getting rid of their NES games and I asked if I could keep them. Surprisingly, he said yes. In August, when everyone was getting ready for school like every August, and gamers were getting ready for the true US debut of the Sony PlayStation, Kay Bee Toys and our local mall called South Park, and I'm not talking about the show centered around 4 offensive little snow kids and one is always having appointments with the grim reaper, I bought Megaman 6 and Legend of Zelda, the classic series rerelease not in gold (I wish I did but I got Zelda II in gold). I had beat MM6 the same night I got it and Beat Zelda in 3 weeks.

hi,i happen to have 218 games and i cant help to remind you of my past ok here i go.i went to st. cloud MN one day and found myself in tigerplay so i was walking around and i saw river city ransom for $5!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!i already had rush'n'attack,super mario bros.,skykid,rc pro am and a couplke others.so i bought river city ransom.then i constantly started talking about the nes and my brother told me about funco land so i went there and bought a whole crapload of games.then school started so i got a whole s***load of games(i cant help but to remember when i bought skate or die,champ bowling,bugs bunny,and donkey kong classics for only $10!!!!!!!!!!!)so i got to 218 games and i am currently exploding on my count i will kep in touch with you ok.bye


Mario's Story
Hello there,..I just saw your page with all the games on there....INCREDIBLE!!! My name is Mario (Super...LOL),.I'll turn 25 in Janurary & I started playing my NES back in X-as of 1987. I just collect just for the great games only. I have HUNDREDS OF GAMES,....I have 10,...YES,..10 different platforms to play on!!! I was a die hard Nintendo freak ever since the NES,...my SNES in high school, college,...& still now. I HATED Sega with vengence,...until I got my PSX,...but for my love for Capcom fighters that basically.....S-U-C-K-ED! on the PSX,...I turned to Saturn!!! Just check out my home page that I created,...though its still not complete,.... I just got rid of my 8-Bit NES machine because it was sooooo hard to play any games on it,....so I bought a device in San Fransico called the SUPER 8,...which is a converter that plays American & Japanese NES & SNES games on the Super NES!!! Works perfectly!!!!! I, for some reason, just didn't care for the N64,...I always thought that PSX was better,....especially now that Dreamcast is the KING now!!!!! Adams Story
I have a story to tell and maybe it will change other people who play nintendo to realize and cherish what they have.......... I live in Brooklyn, New York, great place. One weekend a friend of mine came over from Pennsylvania and brought his nintendo over. Courteous as he was to see I enjoyed it, he gave it to me with a couple of games. They were ok nintendo games but no real classics. Then after that I started buying them in stores which they didn't really a lot of them (it was 97) so I was only getting games like "Punch-Out!!" and "The Legend of Zelda". Then I seen the light. While walking down the street I saw a store that sold Playstation games. Went in and to see what they sold also.... NINTENDO GAMES GALORE!!! For about 2 bucks a game! Tops was $4! I went there everyday day. Non-stop. This store would always get new games in like each 3 days. It was heaven. I knew I would never find a place like this again. I didn't play Playstation or N64. Sometimes I had to wipe the dust off the systems to keep them from being unstable. Then one weekend I was going to visit my grandparents in Upstate New York and so I decided to bring the system. I couldn't bring all my games, only a couple. So I brought them in my nintendo package and was on my way. On the way back, the first time I ever brought my games and the millions of times I have come to visit, we got into a car accident on the free way. I went to the ambulance and got checked up. I was fine and so were my parents that came with me. But that wasn't what was on my mind. I hadn't played the nintendo games for about a month because they were still in the car. The day I went to the place where they toed the car to get the stuff out, I took out my nintendo. It was fine. Then I couldn't find my package with the games. I figured the games had blown out the window since they were all together. I cried (I was 11 at the time). That is how much I loved em'. And it hurt even more when I tried to get them back by going to the store I bought them from and seeing if they had more then 1 of each game. It was closed down. A new store had opened up. Its been 2 years now and I am thirteen and am stuck with all of the bad ones I left behind. I try to get into em' but when I play I just get more depressed. But just recently my grandparents visited me. And somehow the subject got brought up about games and my grandmother said "Hey, you know I still have your games you left at my house." I almost threw-up I was so noxious to hear about it. Now she is sending them to me in the mail as we write and I think its a sign......... I feel reborn and have a new reason to live. Nintendo has changed my life. Even as I write this I feel a stomach ache coming on because it hurts to think about playing them. Just think they have been there for 2 years. And now I will have my games once more.I just wanted to share this with you.... Adam.....


Nates Story
I just happened to get my NES two weeks ago. Before that, I was going crazy about finding one. I looked all over the internet, and found nothing. I even asked all my friends if I could have thier NESs. They all said no. Then I asked my niebor, Darell, he said "Sure, come over this weekend and i'll give it to ya." I was SOOOOO exited!!! then that weekend, I went over to his house, and he said "Sorry, I coudn't find it." so I was in a lousy mood the rest of the day. Then, I had an idea, I called up funcolnd, nd they said "yeah, we have them in stock" "theyr'e $50.00 each" , so I thought to myself "I'll never get fifty dollars!" , so I called up my dad, and told him how crummy I felt, He responded with "I'll take you threre this afternoon if you help me build an underground pool in our backyard" It was the best thing anyone had ever told me. So, that afternoon we went to funcoland and bought an NES with Super mario bros./duck hunt and Kung fu, that afternoon, I called up my niebor, Darell, and asked him if he had any NES games, He said yes, I do, you can have some if you want, so that day I went over to his his house and that is where I got Tetris, Dragon warrior IV, Maniac mansion, Final fantasy,and Zelda. Then, just a week ago, My friend, Thomas came over and brought Champ bowling,Ice hockey, and Rygar.I found them boring. so when we took him home, we went to his house and traded those three for Paperboy, Ghosts N' Goblins, Commando, and the adventure of link. And just yesterday I bought Rocket ranger. I wrote this story to make people realize what theyr'e wasting when they throw out their NESs, And to show what simply asking can do.


Josh's Story
Just thought I would write and tell you that you have an excellant site! I thought I was the only one who was collecting 8-bit nes games, but I put in a search on my engine, and I find all of this. This is great, knowing that some, like I, have not forgotten the fun and joy of playing the old Nintendo system. I aslo live in Kentucky, in Lincoln Co. Know where that's at? I also graduated this year too. Maybe we could throw a Nintendo all-night game party or something. I am just getting started on my collection though. My story is fast and brief, so here you go. I was sitting around one day, thinking of what I would do and how I will make it when I move out of my mom's house. I was thinking about jobs, bills, entertainment......the came my idea. I was always having fun when I played my old Nintendo 8-bit system, no matter what I was playing. I knew I still had it, but I need some new connectors. No problem, I will just buy that stuff from people on the 'net. I thought about all the joyous days I had playing my Nintendo. As I thought about it more, I realised that this is alot cheaper than buying the new systems and games, since they are so high priced anyway. My old pal Nintendo could entertain me for hours on end, with no disapointment at all. So, I asked my girlfriend what she thought about it, since she loves playing video games, and she is going to move in with me, and she said that sounded great. So I made my decision to drown myself in the great world of the old Nintendo. And since no one wants the games anymore, they are cheap, which saves me cash, and provide me with hours of fun. Like you said, they can sometimes be free. So that's my story. I am proud to be an 8-bit Nintendo player. I represent the old school Nintendo, and with pride too. So there is my story. I have a couple of questions. Do you know anywhere online that I can get nes games really cheap? Also, I am looking for a top-loading nes. Where can I find one of these, for a really cheap price? And where is the best site for Game Genie codes? I don't really get a kick out of trying to beat it the hard way, so I use Game Genie. Hey, I am playing for fun, not being all serious about it. Chris's Story
I have been playing the Nintendo since I was 7 when it came out (was very expensive), I can remember my parents paying like 40 bucks per game and I was a bit limited in my game selection but I will say Nintendo was life for half the kids in the school and was like a whole other society ranging from the good to the bad. Also collected and read the Nintendo Power since the first issue which came out when I was about 9-10, and only stopped after I had no longer was buying games for the Nintendo but I have kept on and have had a couple of game boys, Super Nintendo and the Nintendo 64 but still nothing beats the enjoyment of the original.
Recently after my girlfriend broke out her old Nintendo set and games, I have been playing again and have been spending my days building a massive collection from auctions on E-Bay. Within the next month I will have more then a hundred games for the Nintendo, definitely the tips you list are what I have used to collect these games and I strongly recommend using E-Bay to get game lots (for most you'll shell out $2-2.50 average per game and is alot cheaper then paying the $3-8 to get one by one), however you have to have access to checking, credit cards or money orders for the most part and you must also be over 18 years of age to bid (for the younger generation, there is always mom and dad).
I recommend the technical spec pages and links to do your own Nintendo repair, some of these pages are very detailed and show you how to repair everything in regards to the Nintendo. However you have to be semi-skilled with Electronics and know a microchip from a hole in the wall, and regardless of what it says on the back of the games you can use rubbing alcohol to clean the games provided that you dry it off or let it dry. You use a tiny bit on the end of a Q-tip and lightly rub it along the connectors, also a tip I found on a website if you put it on the connectors on the game then insert the game and slightly rub the game connectors along the connectors in the system and it cleans the dirts away.
Nintendo's warnings against it aren't for the protection of the customer, they introduced their own cleaning kit which uses a base cleaner and knew that if people got wind they could clean it themselves they wouldn't be able to sell the cleaning kit for the 35-40 bucks they were asking in some places. The Nintendo cleaning kit and the solution that comes with it does work great, but a bottle of rubbing alcohol and some q-tips is far easier to find and less expensive.
I recently did this and my girlfriend's system works almost prefectly, no blowing or anything. Most of the time just have to put in the game and hit the power button and its working prefectly, Nintendo made a mucho big mistake by not having the original NES to be a top-loader (since then there haven't been ANY side-loading game machines). They probably could have kept the NES going for longer then 1995 if they had introduced the NES 2 (the rarer top loader version of the NES) sooner, since the main complaint from people has all the technical problems involved with the NES and Nintendo did little to respond to them (too little, too late as it were).
Anyways right now I'm 20 and still a video game freak, however aside from my refounded interest in the Nintendo its mostly limited to the computer (which in many ways is far superior and at sometimes is less the the price). Oh and my favorite Nintendo game series are the Legend of Zelda games (I will say Ocarina of Time was beyond cool, with Adventure of Link being my least favorite since it was a side scroller), I am dying to see the next Zelda game which rumors say won't be for the N64 but for Project Dolphin (codename for the next Nintendo system) and in that case I will probably have to wait then.

T-Bones Story


After getting Pokemon Stadium in summer vacation 2000, I began to play it all day and night. Eventually I wound up getting Pepsi and Surge to keep up my energy. After awhile I got bored playing it and snuck around the house (keeping in mind that this is 2:30 A.M.) to find some movies to watch (the TV in my room has a built in VCR). I got all the Star Wars movies I have, which is Ep 1, 4, 5, and 6. In the process I found a VERY dusty video. Looks as though it hasn't been moved since I moved into the house which was 5 years ago. "The Wizard" was what it was called. My sis told me that when I was about 6, I watched that movie all the time. However, I couldn't remember anything about that. Well anyway, I popped that movie into my VCR, and watched it all through. They mention several NES games that I HAD to try for myself. So I went to Gamers (a store that buys/sells video games) and purchased the NES, a zapper a controller, and Super Mario Bros/Duck Hunt for $20. I also bought Legend of Zelda, since I saw it in the case and had some cash left over, and I wanted to play it for long time. I loved the game, and began collecting the games featured in The Wizard, and some others that I heard of before. At the end of the summer vacation I bought Double Dragon II, Kirby's Adventure, Cobra Triangle, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. After that I stopped collecting because of school. However, I shall continue collecting ALL the NES games and accessories I can get! I began that with the purchase of the NES Advantage controller (a controller that resembles an arcade game console), which I got 2 days ago. I'm going to try those pointers I got at this page to score games w/o straining my money supply and sell/trade doubles of consoles, games, and accessories. Now I have a checklist using the games list at this page. I'm going to add it to my webpage (it is not ready yet, so no URL for you!) and let my visitors know what games I have using an X, what games I am getting or plan to get with :^D, and "I couldn't care less about that game" using X^P . Matt Cullinane's Story


Anyway, my story begins December 24, 1985.. I was three, and my parents had bought a Nintendo. It was xmas, but the Nintendo wasn't really for anyone specific, think of it as household community property, hehe.. Anyway, it came with the Mario/Duckhunt game, and they had bought some game called Alpha Mission or whatnot.. Can't remember.. I remember being so young, I had no motor skills to really play anything well. It was a year later, that I started to play it a bunch. By then, my parents had bought Rambo, Bubble Bobble, Hogan's Alley, and one of those Sesame Street games (hehehe).
Then we moved, and my parents divorced, etc.. And we started to buy games more often, like once every few months. We bought a whole mess of games, almost none of them are around anymore (I think my mom tossed them, not knowing how much they would mean to me later). My favorite games where the Mega Man series, the later two TMNT games, Punch Out!! and some others..
Nowadays I'm something of a scavenger. I wander from Gamers to Gamers (a local chain video game retailer) searching their glass bins for cheap boxed games. So far, the cheapest mint boxed game with instructions I've found was Bases Loaded, for fifty cents. I had bought a copy of Final Fantasy for thirteen bucks, but I think my younger brother sold it to one of his idiot friends, and hasn't gotten around to tell me.
It wasn't until about a month ago though, that I had gotten my own Nintendo. Because I couldn't find one, I had to use my friend's NES. I made a hobby out of cleaning my friend's old games and systems, and one of them even paid me $20 for doing so. But anyway, I traded one of my SNES's to a friend for one of his old NES's.. He said it was busted up and didn't work worth a crap, which kinda made me reluctant to trade, but after I worked on it, it had no problems at all.
The most foolish gamer I've ever come across was a man in his thirties who was at the Gamers I was buying some games at, and he asked "You still play those?" So I corrected his thinking I was living in the stone age by saying, "Yes, I buy, clean and collect them." So he said, "I was just about to throw mine out.." So I told him not to throw them out, but to call me up before he does, and he said, "No, I'd sell em to you for like $10 each. I didn't know they were worth money!" So I told him to look at the games in the bin.. Most of them weren't worth more than $3, meaning if Gamers bought them from him, he'd get a dime each..
Now I still roam from ebay, to Gamers, to Garage sales in search of more games, and work on my site until it's ready to be put up.


Eddie Pierson's Story


My name's eddie. my collection as of right now is a mediocre 60, but still growing. about a year ago i went to the infamous Funcoland and bought a used NES system, a cleaner and some cheap games. i ended up spending about 70 dollars on them. i found all of my nintendo games that i had from my childhood. i have recently picked up about 15 games from garage sales and rental places. my pest purchase was contra, super tecmo bowl, Ninja Gaiden, double dragon, and double dragon 2 for $1 a piece. i also pick up mario's time macine for $5. i will keep everyone informed of my collection. the site is great. if anyone knows of where i can get some old nintendo powers, that would be great. Andrew Bayless' Story


Hi, my name is Andrew, I have an interesting Story about my days collecting NES games. You See, as long as i can remember, i've been playing video games. It started in an old arcade in the mall here in San Antonio (Texas) Every sunday, after church, my family and I would go eat lunch at the Luby's Cafeteria in Central Park mall. I was 3 at the time (I can remember my early childhood easyly unlike most people)I belive it was 1984 or 85 (depending on the season, either winter 84 or spring of 85 I can remember the date that well). The first video game i ever played was there, Donkey Kong. At the time, I had no skills at games or even understood what i was doing, all i knew was that it seemed fun somehow. Skip ahead to 1987, I was five and my grand mother had to be moved into a home. Since she was the one who took us to the arcade every week, it was now no longer a habit, And I rarley got to play Video Games after that until my neighbor, a 7 year old second grader, got a Sega Master System. He used to show my brother and I all the coolest games for the system such as alex kid and haunted house. In 1988, we moved to a different school district in the same city and my brother made many new friends there. one of them had an NES with a whole lot of games. I saw my first NES game then , Contra. The following christmas, I was given a choice between NES and Sega Master, I didn't think about it at all and blurted out "NES !" It was a gamble I would never soon regret. That Christmas, I recieved an NES with Super Mario Brothers/Duckhunt , The Legend Of Zelda , Metal Gear, and Gotcha! the sport, With some money my Sister gave me for christmas, I purchased Super mario brothers 2 the following January, I was 7 at the time. Over the next four years, I received new games only on christmas and my birthday. I knew many people with NESs So there was a lot of borrowing going back and forth. My interest in the System Peaked when i subscribed to Nintendo Power in febuary 1991 (I still have my first Issue with Startropics on the cover). That Christmas, I was dissapointed that I had not gotten the Super Nintendo I had wanted, I had recieved one the next christmas though. Skip Ahead to 1996, Shortly after my 15th Birthday, I got a part time job doing yard work for my neighbors so i could buy an N64. Because of the Super Nintendo, I was now a bonafided Nintendo Devotee with no interest in Sega and Sony. Around this Time, I met a strange fellow who came from Corpus Christi Texas part of a rich mormon family, he had 3 brothers and a sister. What I found amazing though at the time was that he and his family owned more than 400 NES games! Collected over ten years from 1986 to 96, they had all the great ones, every dragon warrior, castlevania, mega man, you name it, they had it, Even an R.O.B I used to visit them and we had nostalgia trips together playong all my favorite games from my years of renting games Which I could never own. You see, he and his family used to live in Corpus Christi, The Home town of the Funcoland Chain, It existed there way back in 1994 before it spread out in 97 and 98, they had more games then than they do now and they! were actually cheaper in 94. Skip Ahead to 1999 After years of taking for granted the fact that I had overlooked systems Competeing with N64, I went to a garage sale and bought a Sega Genesis for 40$ plus ten games after that, i started to collect Genesis games. Some months later, I picked up an old master System, then an Atari 2600 VCS , then a Play Station, then a Saturn , then a virtual boy. I started Scouring garage sales and Funcoland and a few other imitators and ended up buying a whole lot of games for these systems which I had finnaly opened up to , so to speak . So here I am two years later, Ive come full circle and broke all my personal barriers. I had become a full fledged collector I now owned over 300 games spread over 12 different systems. Yet , I felt unfullfilled, what was i doing ? all these new systems I owned were new to me, and all these wonderful games I were collecting were new to me, I never knew the joys of Treasure on genesis or of all the great games on PSX before then, so what was missing ? I soon relized what I was missing one day when a friend of mine wanted to play an old NES game I owned, Castlevania 3. After he opened to drawer, I realized that in my 2 year collecting craze I had only purchased 10 new NES games making a total of 35 games in all, many blanks of my childhood had to be filled, blanks left by neglet, the neglect of my first love in home video games, The NES. After getting my job earlier this year, which only pays 150$ a week, I started a habit of buying used NES games using only 50$ from each pay! check, and boy how I could strectch that 50 ! Since about march of 2001, I have nearly tripled my Collection of NES games, I now have nearly 90 NES games which I played off and on since that fateful christmas morning in 1988. Let my story be a lessom , no matter what you do in life or where you go, you can always find happiness where you once were before .

i started my collection maybe 3 years ago i saw adventures of link and final fantasy 1 at funcoland so i bought them and an old school nes after playin those again i asked friends if they wanted there games they parted with some but some they would not i accumulated maybe 100 games this way then i started going to funcoland my friend works there and gives me discounts i always buy may games even if i dont like them cause' my goal is to get all the american made ones and i also went to ebay iv found if you type "lot of nes games" in a search you will find bundles of nes games at fair prices currently my collection is at 247 and still growing -Tom-

What up hoz? My name is bob. i come from St.Louis Missouri and i want to share with you a NES story o' mine. It all started around christmas of 2000(i know i am a late bloomer but i was born in 1985 so my first love was the SNES). I was in a place called slackers cds and games (a local used game retailer) and saw Final Fantasy 1. i had to have it, since i love all the others. i bought it for $15.00 and went on my way knowin my next-door-neighbor who was born in 87, and oddley enough, was having a garage sale and that i could buy his NES, mega man 5 and 6 and his zelda. well, with my luck, he back out of the deal and gave me the shaft. he ended up sellin' mega man 5 and 6 to a three year old and kept the NES. well, i had to have one. so, i went down to slackers and they had a package deal. it was an old scool NES, light gun, Mario/Duckhunt, two controllers, all the wires, and 10 games that had a yellow price tag(which were all the crappy games). i got a couple decent and a couple classics out of it, though like Dragon warrior, double dragon, and metriod. well, i have 12 or 13 games now. i really need to get movin' on collecting them and i have takin' your advice.
