This one came in a flash.  We had gone up to visit Katja and Elena at St. Kates in MN.  We were all meditating, and my eyes popped open to see Kat by the window - boom.  The rest poured out easily.  Now she's married and a mother, so perhaps she needs a new song, or another verse, but this is how it stands. 2001
SHE KNOWS (Katja’s Song)

There’s a girl by the window
With a sadness in her heart
And a beauty in her eyes when they open
With the sun on her face and the wind in her hair
She sits there a dreamin’ and a hopin’

And she knows deep inside
That she’s got no place to hide
From the pain and the joy life will bring her
And her soul soars and sings
When she thinks of special things
Like the day she’ll have a ring on her finger

She is standing in the garden in a dress of fairy gold
And her bare feet are tickling the grasses
When she dances she is young, but she wonders just how old
She will be when the longing finally passes

And she knows deep inside
That she’s got no place to hide
From the pain and the joy life will bring her
And her soul soars and sings
When she thinks of precious things
Like the loves in her life that will linger

Now she’s building up the mem’ries
That will get her through the days
When she walks all alone, softly singing
Her wisdom and her hands heal in oh so many ways
What a light to this world she is bringing

And she knows deep inside
That she’s got no need to hide
From the pain and the joy life will bring her
And her soul soars and sings
‘Cause she knows so many things
In her glory no one could ever sting her

Yes she knows deep inside
That she’s got no need to hide
From the beauty and the truth life will bring her
And her soul soars and sings
On imaginations wings
She’ll make magic from all that this great world flings her
