June 2002
The new engine is installed and it runs great, feels very strong, responsive and mechanically quiet and vibs are minimum.
After some break in and adjustments I did a higher speed run over 20 miles and observed for leaks and temp , no leaks and it appears to be running cooler.
The first start up and runs was made on Aviation gasoline but now it's regular pump 98.
Specs this year is 4 3/4 (S&S) stroke, 3,5/8 bore + .010, advanced 43 degree squish heads and angled pistons 4,7 degrees.
Still single carb (HSR 42) Mechanical comp is set at 10,1 - 1 , same cam Leineweber 425. Valve Guide seals are installed and valve closing pressure is 160 Ibs. Ignition is programmable AMM Single Fire Currently at 34 degress.
Squish clearance is .035. Clean plugs on high speed, needs less pilot jet for the idle to 1/4 throttle.
All systems are individually fitted, that is Oil pump, bushings and gears, all gears are replaced including the cam gear
to achieve correct backlash. Total reciprocating weight is down to 974 grams thru piston lightening and low weight pin (-30g) toghether with lightened S&S rods, it's not uncommon to see 1500 grams in std engines.
