Grooming to a Shine
I start with a curry comb because that takes out the crusty mud and hard dirt. Use this brush in circular motions. Then brush it away with a stiff bristled brush. If you use the soft brush, you're not going to get the best shine into your horse. After that, use a shedding blade to take away any loose hair. Finish off with a soft brush or dandy brush. If you want, use a soft cloth and wax to make your horse "shine". When combing the mane and tail, use conditioner. This will make it easy to remove tangles.. Remember to always check for rocks in the horses hoof. Also, a good grooming usually lasts 15 minutes. If you're at the barn just to brush your horse, then spend up to 30 minutes grooming. You'll love the result! Clip your horse at least once every two weeks. Don't clip the ears unless you're going to a show because that hair keeps the flies and bugs away. If it's your first time clipping, try to do it when an experienced clipper is around.

Grooming a Horse
Wild horses survive perfectly well without being groomed, but domestic horses are expected to be free from mud, stains, and dust. Horses that live outside should not be groomed excessively because the grease in their coats helps to keep them warm and dry. Just pick out their feet and remove mud and stains, especially from areas where tack will lie. A full grooming of a stabled horse removes dirt and messages the muscles and skin, stimulating the release of natural oils into the coat and improving the circulation.  It is most effective when done after exercise, when the horse is warm.  Most horses enjoy being groomed, but some are ticklish in places.  If possible, groom outside, so that the dust and hair blow away and are not just redistributed on the horse.
