The Siberian Husky is from Northeast Siberia. It belongs to the Working Group, one of the recongnized groups in the American Kennel Club (AKC).

The average weight for male huskies is 45-60 pounds, and for females it is 35-50 pounds. It's expression is keen and friendly. It's eyes are almond shaped. The eyes can be blue or brown, sometimes one of each or both colors in one eye. A husky's ears are medium in size, triangular, close fitting and hign on the head. They are thick, well furred, slightly curved on the back, and the top has a slightly rounded tip that points straight up. It's skull is medium in size, in proportion with the body and it has a lightly rounded top. The Siberian husky's muzzle isn't round but it isn't square, either. It's in the middle. The nose can be different colors, depending on the color of the dog. It can black for tan, gray, or black dogs, liver (the color, not the body organ), for copper (the color, not the metal) dogs and flesh colored in white dogs. A husky's lips are pigmented and close fitting. Huskies have strong compact bodies, deep chests, and strong, straight legs. The legs are moderatly spaced and parallel. The neck is medium in length. A Siberian husky's ribs are well sprung from the spine, but flattened on the sides to allow freedom of action. It's back is straight and strong. The tail is well furred. It is held at a sickle curve when at attention and drags along when the husky is working.

The Siberian husky has lots of characteristics that differ from other dogs. It has unusual cleanliness, docility, and intelligence. The husky has a double coat, the inner coat has thick, soft fur to keep it warm, and the outer coat is soft, and has smooth hair giving it a well-groomed appearance. This dog is alert, but it isn't suspicious of strangers or other dogs. I is a willing worker. The husky is relatively quiet, but it can howl quiet often. It "talks" with a soft "woo, woo, woo" sound.

The Siberian husky doesn't have much history, but it has some. The Chuckchi people first started this breed in the 1800's. They used huskies as sled dogs, watch dogs and to herd reindeer. In 1909, huskies were imported to Alaska by a fur trader.

The usual colors of Siberian huskies are tan, gray, black, or copper, but they can be agouti and white (brown and white), sable and white (red and whie with a red nose) piebald (white with "patches" of color), and white. There are two types of whites, Isabella whites and pure whites. Pure whites are just plain white. Isabella whites are born with a light color such as light red, but gradually loses that color and turns into white with "patches" of cream color, sort of like a piebald.

Huskies eat very little for their size. Believe it or not, huskies have no relationship with wolves, other than the fact that they are both dogs. Did you know that huskies can live in temperatures as low as -75º ? I hope you can use this information and you learned a lot about the Siberian Husky!
