I started this original mod a few weeks ago (about halfway through June '01) because I had some spare time (out of work). So far I have completed 8 ships - r1 and r2 Motherships, r2 Scout, r2 Interceptor, r2 Ion Cannon Frigate, r2 Destroyer, r2 Missile Destroyer and the r2 Carrier. The rest of the ships are in various stages of completion as I usually jump from one to another, depending on what ideas I get. I am hoping to have this mod completed within a month or 2. In the meantime, any completed ships can be downloaded from the downloads page here with some screenshots available here .
I designed and textured all these ships myself, as well as adding them to the game. Basically I’ve done all the work you see here (including this webpage -which definitely needs work - but excluding a few textures on the models). I’ve enjoyed every bit of it, even though it can get quite frustrating at times when you encounter a problem when trying to put a ship into the game. But thanks to all the help on the net (the Homeworld modding sites with their tutorials), as well as the great tools (such as Liflist, 3d Explorer and VME) I wasn’t stuck for long.
I have tweaked the ships specs a little bit, mainly the power of the weapons (increased but not too much) as well as the speed (also increased on some of the ships). Main reason was that I was getting a bit annoyed with the amount of time you had to wait for the harvesters to finish harvesting resources in some of the single player missions. I increased the speed on some of the other ships as well just to decrease their travelling time (obviously).
I struggled a bit with the textures (making decent ones - I need some practise with Paintshop Pro) so they probably look a bit basic. I found 4 of the textures on the net (the chrome/metallic texture, the criss-cross metal on the bottom of the hangar bay, the street texture found on the Carrier and Mothership, and the window texture) and modified some of them (added colour to the metallic texture and the window texture) and the rest I created from scratch.
