| DIFFICULT QUESTIONS, A CHALLENGE These questions are from another website that is against the one God faith. This is what they said about the questions: “Of course, I have found some of these questions to be more difficult than others for the Oneness person to adequately answer. In fact, two of them no Oneness Person has adequately answered at all. Which are they? Try them out.” 1. Is Jesus His own Father? Ans. The question as I understand it is the son of God his own father. No the son, “the flesh”, “the temple of God” was made in the womb of Mary as the Spirit of God moved on her. Luke 1:34 Then said Mary unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man? 35 And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God. 2. If Jesus' will and the Father's will were identical, then why did Jesus express the desire to escape the cup but resigns Himself not to His own will, but the will of the Father? Ans. The Bible says the spirit is willing but the flesh is weak. Matthew 26:41 Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak. Matthew 26:42 He went away again the second time, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if this cup may not pass away from me, except I drink it, thy will be done. Romans 8:3 For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh: Romans 8:4 That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. Romans 8:13 For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live. Ans. The flesh doesn’t want to suffer. God is showing us that his Spirit prevails over the flesh. 3. Was Jesus praying to Himself in the Garden of Gethsemane? Ans. Jesus was both man(flesh) and God (Spirit) so He could speak as a man and say I thirst, or say destroy this temple and in three days I will raise it up. Everything Jesus did was to fulfill all righteousness. John 12:28 Father, glorify thy name. Then came there a voice from heaven, saying, I have both glorified it, and will glorify it again. John 12:30 Jesus answered and said, This voice came not because of me, but for your sakes. Ans. Jesus prayed to fulfill all righteousness, he was our perfect example. He didn’t pray because he had to, anymore than he had to be baptized. Matthew 3:14 But John forbad him, saying, I have need to be baptized of thee, and comest thou to me? Matthew 3:15 And Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer it to be so now: for thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness. Then he suffered him. 4. If Jesus was praying to the divine side of Himself, then isn't He still praying to Himself? Ans. I think that this question is answered by the answer to question 3. 5. Why was Jesus not saying, "Not My will, but My will be done?" if there is only one person and one will involved when He was praying in Luke 22:42 & Matt. 26:39 Ans. I think that this question was answered by the answer to question 2. 6. If baptism is essential for salvation, then what happens to someone who repents of sin, accepts Jesus as Savior, walks across the street to get baptized but is killed by a car. Does he go to heaven or hell? If he goes to heaven, then baptism isn't a requirement is it? If he goes to hell, then faith in Christ isn't sufficient to save him is it? Ans. First we must answer the question is God in complete control? That nothing can happen unless he allows it. If a man sincerely wanted to obey God, would God allow him to die before he had all that he needed? If a man asks God for bread will he give him a stone? Ans. Salvation is a road, not a place. Matthew 10:22 And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake: but he that endureth to the end shall be saved. Matthew 24:12 And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold. Matthew 24:13 But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved. Luke 14:28 For which of you, intending to build a tower, sitteth not down first, and counteth the cost, whether he have sufficient to finish it? Luke 14:29 Lest haply, after he hath laid the foundation, and is not able to finish it, all that behold it begin to mock him, Luke 14:30 Saying, This man began to build, and was not able to finish. Luke 14:33 So likewise, whosoever he be of you that forsaketh not all that he hath, he cannot be my disciple. Revelation 2:10 Fear none of those things which thou shalt suffer: behold, the devil shall cast some of you into prison, that ye may be tried; and ye shall have tribulation ten days: be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life. Revelation 2:11 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; He that overcometh shall not be hurt of the second death. 7. Since the Bible teaches us that Jesus is in bodily form now (Col. 2:9 )then how does the Oneness Pentecostal person maintain that God is in the form of the Holy Spirit? Also, when Jesus returns, will He return in His body? Will God's form then revert to the form of the Son at a later date? Ans. The son (now a glorified body) and God who is a Spirit (that is his essence) are what we are dealing with. God is using the son ship to destroy the works of the devil on earth. When that is complete the son ship will end. and it will be God in his temple. That body is the image of God. Colossians 1:15 Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature: Corinthians I 15:24 Then cometh the end, when he shall have delivered up the kingdom to God, even the Father; when he shall have put down all rule and all authority and power. Corinthians I 15:25 For he must reign, till he hath put all enemies under his feet. Corinthians I 15:28 And when all things shall be subdued unto him, then shall the Son also himself be subject unto him that put all things under him, that God may be all in all. 8. If God is only one person, why did Jesus say in (John 14:23 )"If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him." If God is only one person, why does Jesus say, "we"? Ans. The father is a Spirit, that is his essence, he fills all space. The Son is the word made alive in the flesh. God seeks such to worship him in Spirit and in truth. The “we” is Spirit and truth. People try to make God a man or several men. God is a Spirit, for us to “see” him, he must manifest himself in some manner weather it be a cloud, a voice, a angel or whatever. John 4:24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth. John 1:14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth. 9. Oneness theology teaches that God was in the mode of the Father in the Old Testament. God was seen in the OT (not as a vision or a dream or an angel in the following verses: (Exo. 6:2-3) (Gen. 19:24) Num. 12:6-8). But, Jesus said no one has seen the Father (John 6:46 If they were seeing God Almighty (Exo. 6:2-3 but it wasn't the Father, then who was it? Exodus 5:22 And Moses returned unto the LORD, and said, Lord, wherefore hast thou so evil entreated this people? why is it that thou hast sent me? Exodus 6:2 And God spake unto Moses, and said unto him, I am the LORD: 3 And I appeared unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob, by the name of God Almighty, but by my name JEHOVAH was I not known to them. Ans. It doesn’t say here in what form God appeared. Numbers 12:6 And he said, Hear now my words: If there be a prophet among you, I the LORD will make myself known unto him in a vision, and will speak unto him in a dream. 7 My servant Moses is not so, who is faithful in all mine house. 8 With him will I speak mouth to mouth, even apparently, and not in dark speeches; and the similitude of the LORD shall he behold: wherefore then were ye not afraid to speak against my servant Moses? Ans. It doesn’t say here what similitude God appeared in. John 6:46 Not that any man hath seen the Father, save he which is of God, he hath seen the Father. 40 And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day. Ans. God is a invisible Spirit. You cannot see something that is invisible. We can see God by faith and spiritual understanding. To see God with the human eye God must appear in some form. Like I said before be it a angel, a cloud, a fire or other thing. Timothy I 1:17 Now unto the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only wise God, be honour and glory for ever and ever. Amen. |
