WISH YOU A HAPPY EID AL-ADHA
DHAMAKA NEWS BUREAU

Eid al-Adha is a great and unique occasion of joy and celebration. Ironically, this joy and celebration revolve around sacrifice. It would probably make sense to only those who understand that the joy of giving that touches others' lives is far greater and deeper than the joy of receiving. This great occasion of Eid al-Ad'ha is tied to an unique event, the Hajj; a unique city, Makkah; and a unique family, the family of Ibrahim (peace be upon him). Indeed, what the Quran refers to the Milla of Ibrahim is essentially rooted in the legacy of a model family. Say: "God speaks the Truth: follow the Milla of Ibrahim, the True in Faith; he was not of the Pagans."

EUROPE RESISTING ISLAM'S DARK AGES

By ALEXIS AMORY / Paris
Long a sea of tolerance that provided a buoyant platform for Muslim immigrants to preach a fundamentalist agenda, Europe seems only now to be waking up to the threat posed by some Muslims intent on bending their host societies to suit themselves. The original intention, particularly in Britain and France, which admitted large numbers of citizens of their former colonies after granting them independence, was that Muslim immigrants to European shores would assimilate. Many did. But many primitive thinkers flooded into Europe only to be shocked by the enlightened society they encountered. Some groups developed an agenda of imposing their old ways and their religion on their host societies.

VIJAYASHANTI KEEN ON TELANGANA

By SHEKHAR REDDY / Hyderabad
After holding the party leaders on tenterhooks for a long time on the Telangana issue, renowned film star and Bharatiya Janata Mahila Morcha national vice-president Vijaya Shanti has decided to contest in the coming elections from the Telangana region. "I will contest from any place in Telangana - let it be Warangal or Medak - as decided by the party," Vijaya Shanti told this website's newspaper over phone from Chennai. Vijaya Shanti recalled that in the previous Lok Sabha elections, her party leaders had asked her to be prepared to contest against AICC president Sonia Gandhi if she filed her papers from Kadapa.

NEW VIRUS INFECTS PCS, WHACKS SCO

By ROBERT LEMOS / New York
A mass-mailing virus quickly spread through the Internet on Monday, compromising computers so that they attack the SCO Group's Web server with a flood of data on Feb. 1, according to antivirus companies. The virus--known as MyDoom, Novarg and as a variant of the Mimail virus by different antivirus companies, arrives in an in-box with one of several different random subject lines, such as "Mail Delivery System," "Test" or "Mail Transaction Failed." The body of the e-mail contains an executable file and a statement such as: "The message contains Unicode characters and has been sent as a binary attachment."

SEX SLAVE JIHAD - AN ATTITUDE

By DONNA M HUGHES / Washington
A measure of Islamic fundamentalists success in controlling society is the depth and totality with which they suppress the freedom and rights of women. In Iran for 25 years, the ruling mullahs have enforced humiliating and sadistic rules and punishments on women and girls, enslaving them in a gender apartheid system of segregation, forced veiling, second-class status, lashing, and stoning to death.

THE ABSURDITY OF EGALITARIANISM

By JOHN KEKES / Singapore
Egalitarians believe that inequality is unjust and justice requires a society to move steadily toward greater equality. This is the aim and the justification of proportional taxation, affirmative action, equal opportunity programs, and of the whole panoply of anti-poverty policies that bring us ever closer to the socialist dream of a welfare state. These policies cost money. The egalitarian approach to getting it is to tax those who have more in order to benefit those who have less. The absurdity of this is that egalitarians suppose that justice requires ignoring whether people deserve what they have and whether they are responsible for what they lack. They suppose it just to ignore the requirements of justice.

THE 'BETA-BETI' BRIGADE

By NEERJA CHOWDHURY / Mumbai
The fifth generation of the Nehru-Gandhi family has just taken the plunge into politics. With the announcement that both Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra have become primary members of the Congress party, it is now only a matter of working out the modalities of their involvement. The role they will play in the near future is not quite defined. Both could campaign in a couple of constituencies in Uttar Pradesh and hope for a ripple effect in the rest of the state. Priyanka has already declared that a storm will build up against the NDA from Amethi.
