Swampy taiga forests and mountains, crowned with a permanent ice cap. The only inhabited part is along the coasts with numerous villages where the people eke out a living by beachcombing, fishing, and hunting marine and land mammals and collecting seabird eggs from the rugged cliffs. The coast is less barren of life than the interior due to the climate moderated by the sea.

During the warmer season they venture from their homes to raid. Their raids are known to be especially brutal, famed for burning all they cannot carry away with them. They dislike intrusions into their territories and will always destroy any surface settlements which come within several days sail of their villages.
